As a privacy subject matter expert, this position will be responsible for operationalizing PayPal’s Global Privacy program, including advising various functional areas and implementing Privacy-by-Design principles to ensure compliance with various privacy laws and regulations. This position will translate privacy objectives into engineering initiatives and work closely with product engineering to design them.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with defining vision, roadmap and strategy for development of privacy applications and processes to support various Global Privacy initiatives (e.g. data discovery, data processing registry, privacy impact assessment, data subject rights and reporting etc.). 
  • Work cross-functionally to foster a culture of Privacy-by-Design throughout the product development process while enhancing customer experience.Ensure products and services are designed with privacy and security in mind.
  • Communicate & coordinate with functional stakeholders to embed privacy controls across the enterprise. Enhance awareness around privacy and data protection to foster the organization’s understanding of data protection.
  • Develop strong partnerships with key stakeholders from information security, product engineering, data management, legal & compliance teams.
  • Identify enterprise-wide privacy and data protection-related risks and suggesting mitigation measures.
  • Understand and advise on complex data flows across the data lifecycle. 
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable privacy requirements and accreditation standards and monitor advancements in technologies. 
  • Define milestone and report on key risk/performance indicators.

The successful candidates should also be able to offer a strategic perspective, sound business judgment, agility to adapt to changing priorities at hand, and be able to effectively work and communicate collaboratively / cross-functionally with multiple teams located in different geographies. Candidate must have a hands-on approach, strong intellectual curiosity and attention to detail and organization, and a passion for achieving practical business impact.

Qualifications/ Education/Experience/Skills:

  • 5+ years of privacy or information security compliance experience and 5+ years program management & Agile methodology experience leading large-scale technology/data-driven initiatives. 
  • Experience implementing various privacy regulations (e.g. GDPR, CCPA, GLBA, TCPA, CAN-SPAM etc)
  • Ability to work closely with both engineers and non-tech stakeholders on technology and process design changes.
  • Experience with privacy principles and related technology processes (e.g. data protection, privacy-by-design, risk assessments, anonymization, de-identification, breach management).
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven track record of driving results and building effective relationships with all levels of management.
  • Strong project management skills, including attention to detail and effective organization.
  • Ability to multitask effortlessly and manage competing priorities under demanding deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, manage projects and drive/achieve results, while working with minimal direction.
