This role from Global Fraud Risk team offers a unique opportunity to enable safe and secure business growth for PayPal and seamless customer experience through innovative, scalable, and highly automated Fraud Decision Strategies, especially by leading a team to develop machine learning algorithms and build up automation pipeline/ system to automate data driven fraud prevention strategies and realize decision accuracy optimization.

Primary job responsibility:

  • As a domain expert in machine learning algorithm/AI, lead and mentor team to achieve broad business goals, leads change and implements effective change strategies.
  • Motivates others to be resourceful and proactive, encourage innovation in dealing with problems.   
  • Manage relationship with cross functional teams globally to ensure smooth and seamless collaboration, being comfortable in handling challenging conversations/ situations.
  • Design, develop and maintain machine learning/AI algorithms, integrate the machine learning algorithm into E2E automation pipeline, which will be used to automate data-driven strategies/solutions for PayPal consumer risk management. Makes sound decisions that balance risk, user experience and financial performance through the algorithm optimization.
  • Develop automation tools which could be used to reduce human efforts and improve efficiency.
  • Develop and automate tracking functionality that monitors volume and solution efficacy. Regularly evaluate and communicate performance of automated strategies and solutions to management.
  • Identify and address problems and issues during normal course of work and respond to risk mitigation needs quickly to solve issues with minimum guidance.
  • Participate in the formulations and implementation of departmental processes, procedures, policies, and standards.
  • Exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results on matters of significance to the business.
  • Look for improvement and innovation opportunities with business impact. Provide a source of high-quality ideas and encourage team to do so.

Job Requirements:
 

  • Strong in data science, analytics and problem solving. Experienced with predicative modeling, data mining and analytical tools. Proficient with SQL, Python, SAS, etc., familiar with Unix and Hadoop.
  • Ability to frame a business problem, propose a solution and make critical design decisions. Proven experience in employing analytics solution on real world problems.
  • Good business sense and logical thinking. Ability to synthesize information and generalize the pattern and solve problem innovatively.
  • Demonstrates thought leadership across multiple different business/functional areas, proven ability to work independently and proficiently on domain relevant projects. Focuses on how to achieve overall business objectives of projects with speed and quality.
  • Able to set clear and aspirational goals with team and lead team to achieve.
  • Proficient talent evaluation skills, demonstrates abilities in selecting great talent for the organization.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills across cross-functional support teams and to business partners. Comfortable leading/presenting in group settings.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and inter-personal skills, and ability to influence cross-functional partners and managers. Manage relationship with key partners and able to collaborate with remote teams effectively.

Basic qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or computer science or engineering field with ~8 year professional work experience in a relevant field. Or Master’s degree with ~6 year profession experience. Or a Doctorate and ~4 years profession experience. Better within the aforementioned tenure, 1~2 years simultaneous managerial experience or mentored other team members.  
  • Industry experience in payments, e-commerce, or financial services is a strong plus.
  • Fluent in English.
