Container platform team offers container-as-a-service to run and lifecycle of all various types of PayPal workloads. Platform team is responsible for managing infrastructure and platform components. Container infrastructure offers core foundation to run container platform (PaaS offering). Managing compute, base ubuntu image, private/public cloud resource lifecycle mgmt., config management for platform, container networking, container storage orchestration, managing Mesos and K8 clusters and their lifecycle and more. Team also contributes to open source projects like Mesos, aurora, consul and K8s. Team is solely responsible for running production grid distributed systems and clusters at scale and meeting PayPal efficiency, performance and reliability standards.

Responsibilities :

-Lead, manage, and scale a team of Software and Systems Engineers.
-Lead site and platform reliability, availability and efficiency metrics.

-Building, maintaining, and scaling Container platform & infrastructure for Production, QA, and Dev environments.

-Establish a collaborative work environment that fosters autonomy, transparency, a high degree of craftsmanship, and personal growth.
-Evangelize software development best practices and set exceptional standards for the Engineering team.
-Lead technical discussions and plans to improve the platform efficiency, reliability and overall quality.
-Plan, design, communicate, and implement reliable, scalable, and extensible distributed systems.
-Work as a pinch-hitter to assist with development as needed.

Required Skills :

6+ years Hands on experience with development in C/C++/Go
5+ years experience and strong foundation in distributed systems - developing, and managing systems

Ability to provide examples of prior software engineering work via digital portfolio or GitHub, etc.

Experience and depth understanding in container technology, docker, containerd, CRI, CNI, CSI
Experience and depth understanding in container network, EBPFs, network protocols, routing
Hands on experience in platform and infrastructure, running/managing infrastructure in public cloud
Cloud platform experience - openstack, public cloud (GCP, AWS)
Strong Systems knowledge and working experience - linux, namespacing, resources, filesystems, kernel

Management experience :
- Onboarding, mentoring and motivating team to thrive in technical challenges

-Leading high performant and strong technical team

-Leading large teams with seasoned and junior engineers
