PayPal is seeking an energetic Legal Counsel to join our Legal team.

The position is based within the Legal team. You will be based in Dreilinden, at the south-western border of Berlin. Besides being part of the German Legal Team, you will participate in a thrilling and complex integration project that allows you to gain great insights into a global company.

You will not only be working mainly on a global integration project that will cover a great number of European and non-European legal and regulatory questions and bring you in contact with many people within PayPal as well as outside of PayPal. You will work closely together with multiple stakeholders and participate in all workstreams that Legal is involved in.

Position is limited for the duration of the main integration phase which will be limited to 12 months.

Legal Counsel (m/f)

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage legal integration work and coordinate with other functions such as Tax, Finance, Compliance, Product, Credit, Risk and Go-To-Market, while understanding the various implications for legal workstreams.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders. Take accountability for tasks and create trust when interacting with others.
  • Attend meetings within the legal team and with other functions and coordinate various complex work-streams.
  • Handle ad-hoc requests and projects as required
  • Communicate with outside counsel.

The successful candidate will have the specific qualifications and experience:

  • Recognized law degree and 2-4 years’ experience practicing either in-house (or in an equivalent setting) or at a reputable law firm,
  • Professional experience as a transaction lawyer, ideally in the FinTech space with a focus on payments law,  or  credit law .
  • Ability to collaborate with senior management and cross functional stakeholders and implement policies and processes.
  • Creative thinker with outstanding communication and analytical skills, strong problem-solving capabilities and the ability to stay calm under challenging circumstances.
  • Ability to take ownership of projects and tasks, handle multiple assignments simultaneously, with effective resolution of conflicting priorities.
  • Adept at advising clients, including senior executives, on complex content- and technology-related legal issues and regulatory matters, ability to distill complex issues and situations into concise summaries.
  • Sound judgment, strong social skills, and the ability to juggle multiple projects under time pressure
  • Fluency in and English required. German language skills would be beneficial
