PayPal is seeking an energetic Legal Counsel to join our Legal team.

You will primarily support PayPal’s German Credit portfolio and provide legal and regulatory guidance relating to all aspects in connection with this portfolio. You will become part of the  wonderful DEATCH Legal team and be primarily responsible for credit related topics. You will be working independently and closely collaborate with the different functions at PayPal.



Legal Counsel (m/f)

The position is limited to 12 months.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide legal and regulatory advice associated with online payments, credit offerings, E- money, digital wallets, holding and reuse of balances & payments processing
  • Provide legal advice associated with payments licensing, payments regulations, data protection, consumer protection
  • Advising on legal and regulatory issues associated with sales, marketing, communications, market entry, product and services development
  • Advising on and negotiation commercial contracts
  • Monitoring ongoing legislation and regulatory changes
  • Working closely with PayPal’s Product, Risk, Privacy, Compliance and Credit Legal Teams
  • Develop and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders. Take accountability for tasks and create trust when interacting with others
  • Partner with PayPal legal colleagues across our global organization

The successful candidate will have the specific qualifications and experience:

  • First experience practicing either in-house (or in an equivalent setting) or at a reputable law firm, ideally with a focus on either payments law, the FinTech space, or financial services regulatory analysis
  • Admitted to, and in good standing with, a state bar
  • Ability and drive to take ownership of projects and tasks
  • Confident self-starter with strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to collaborate with senior management and cross functional stakeholders, and implement policies and processes
  • Creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to stay calm under challenging circumstances
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously, with effective resolution of conflicting priorities
  • Fluency in both German and English required
