PayPal’s Intellectual Property Legal team is looking for, highly engaged and dynamic technology transactions and IP litigation counsel based in Europe.

Description and Duties:

  • Implement global IP strategy throughout a wide range of agreements, such as, NDAs, partnership, merchant, marketing, joint development, patent license, service, standards organization membership, employment and M&A purchase agreements  etc
  • Conduct comprehensive IP and technology law due diligence assessments on European, and other global, mergers and acquisitions projects including, integration counseling
  • Engage in a wide variety of licensing matters including, drafting and negotiating technology law aspects of agreements with external partners and adversaries
  • Collaborate with global team of IP professionals to harmonize and implement patent strategy throughout Europe
  • Collaborate with internal clients including technologists, business and sales teams to advise and align on positions concerning a variety of IP terms, such as, confidentiality, technology ownership, inbound and outbound licenses, IP indemnification and limitations of liability
  • Proactive, strategic management of defensive intellectual property threats and litigation and offensive patent assertions


  • Ability to evaluate, prioritize and execute in a fast paced, demanding and rapidly changing work place
  • Ability to collegially and collaboratively provide timely advice on general business and technology issues taking into account business goals and IP protection concerns in Europe.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to foster trust and respect and to create friendly and collaborative relationships with internal clients
  • Excellent written communication including attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral communication including in person and remote (e.g., phone, video conference) discussions.Ability to work with a global team members
  • Skilled in varied types of negotiations, such as, with partners and adversaries
  • Detailed knowledge of European IP laws generally, and patent laws specifically
  • Openness and willingness to learn.
  • Business acumen
  • Familiarity with software and hardware technology, such as, internet and e-commerce


  • A law degree with a specialization in IP Law AND/OR a degree in Computer Science, or a related field, ideally with an additional qualification completed as a patent attorney
  • Bar membership (Germany or England)
  • 5 years of technology transactions and licensing experience, and 4 years of IP litigation experience
  • Prior house experience is desirable, but not required
