PayPal seeks a backend engineering lead for its Giving Platform team in San Jose. In this role you will be playing a crucial role in building the next generation Giving and Fundraising experiences/products. The PayPal Giving Platform team builds donation and fundraising products that connects hundreds of thousands of non-profits, millions of donors and tens of Partner marketplaces at a global scale to drive good for the community whilst meeting the company’s business objectives.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and developing features and functions delivered via applications and services
  • Developing quality artifacts - Test Planning, Test execution and Test Automation
  • Working in an Agile environment with a focus on problem solving and engineering excellence
  • Collaborating with peers and senior engineers/architects both within the team and across the organization to create technical solutions
  • Working with product managers using Agile methodologies to deliver high quality user experiences that delight PayPal’s customers
  • Working with the operations teams to ensure your applications and services are highly available and reliable

Qualifications:

  • Experience in Java: language features, Object Oriented and modular programming (Design Patterns are a plus), profiling/tuning, garbage collection; proven track record of challenging systems-level Java development.
  • Familiarity with Java/J2EE Technologies like JDBC, JSP, Spring MVC, JSTL, Struts, Hibernate
  • Good knowledge of Databases both SQL and no SQL. Expert in any one database.
  • Exposure to designing web applications and clearly understand concepts like Web Services, SOA, REST APIs
  • Familiarity with GIT,Mock, Continuous Integration systems (Hudson/Jenkins) & Bug Tracking (Jira) tools 
  • Proficiency with XML/XSL frameworks 
  • Proficiency with at least one scripting language (Perl, Python, Unix Shell Script etc.)
  • Nice to have experience in  Application Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, etc), Node.js, Machine Learning   
  • 5 + years software development experience
  • BS in Computer Science or related degree required, MS preferred
