Software Engineer - Capacity Planning Self Service and Report Automation

Primary Job Responsibilities:

We are seeking brilliant, passionate, and smart software developers to join the capacity analysis team at PayPal.

Job Requirements:

We are seeking brilliant, passionate, and smart software developers to join the capacity analysis team at PayPal. At PayPal, we believe automating capacity analysis, load and performance and capacity fulfillment workflows, which means everything is automated and software driven. We are responsible for ensuring optimal usage of computing infrastructure to deliver uninterrupted service for our customers. We are looking to build increased automation against our capacity data-warehouse and infrastructure configuration management systems to implement policy-driven infrastructure build outs.

We’re betting you’re driven to build great things and get awesome results. We’ll also be looking for these things:

  • 3+ years of developing software with object-oriented languages like Java, Python, Go.
  • Extensive knowledge about APIs. You can design RESTful services and integrate with other data providers, and you know when to use JSON or XML.
  • A solid understanding of networking and core Internet protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP, and distributed networks).
  • A solid understanding of algorithms and data structures.
  • Lots of experience with Linux/UNIX systems and the best practices for deploying applications to those stacks.
  • Experience with different databases, including working knowledge of SQL, relational data stores (we use Oracle) — and maybe even NoSQL databases (couchbase).
  • A commitment to best practices. We’ll want your opinions on operational processes, DevOps, deployment checklists, and more.

You’ll work with the best.

You will work to develop solutions side by side with PayPal’s capacity analyst.  We use agile sprints, focused on requirements you get from the team that you sit with, deployed in minutes for immediate review, iteration.  Your coworkers are savvy, innovative, and (at least in our opinion) pretty funny. And, while we may seem laid-back when you meet us, just wait till you see us at work!

Here’s how you fit in:

  • You like being part of a team and enjoy working with other smart engineers.
  • You’re a great communicator and are capable of not just doing the work, but teaching others and explaining the “why” behind complicated technical decisions.
  • You’re open to good ideas, wherever they come from.
  • You aren’t afraid to roll up your sleeves: This role will evolve over time, and we’ll want you to evolve with it!

We're a purpose-driven company whose beliefs are the foundation for how we conduct business every day. We hold ourselves to our One Team Behaviors which demand that we hold the highest ethical standards, to empower an open and diverse workplace, and strive to treat everyone who is touched by our business with dignity and respect. Our employees challenge the status quo, ask questions, and find solutions. We want to break down barriers to financial empowerment. Join us as we change the way the world defines financial freedom.

PayPal provides equal employment opportunity (EEO) to all persons regardless of age, color, national origin, citizenship status, physical or mental disability, race, religion, creed, gender, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, genetic information, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local law.
