PayPal adopted the new Leases standards in January 2019. The FASB and IFRS Board issued new accounting guidance related to accounting for leases under US GAAP and IFRS, which requires lessees to recognize lease assets and lease liabilities on the balance sheet for the rights and obligations created by all leases with terms meeting the specified criteria. The PayPal Controllership Global Record-to-Report organization is looking for a highly motivated Accountant with a combination of strong accounting and interpersonal skills to add to our global cross-functional lease team. The position is located in Omaha, NE. This is an opportunity to learn a new set of accounting rules and participate in early stage design and development of processes built for quality at scale. One will have exposure to not only accounting, but also the business, working closely with the Real Estate and Facilities and Data Center teams.

The Lease Accountant will be responsible for the following primary activities:

  • Lease accounting under both USGAAP and IFRS in support of our monthly close as well as ad hoc requests
  • Assist with preparation of certain 10K/Q footnote disclosures
  • Complete lease accounting reconciliations in partnership with our outsourced accounting provider (IBM)
  • Assist in continuous improvement initiatives including designing, process rationalization, Robotics/Automation, and other system improvements
  • Data integrity reviews of information in our lease management and accounting software
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with our Accounting Policy Group, Real Estate & Facilities, Data Center, Local controllership, and Finance partners
  • Support internal controls and policies and coordinate audit efforts

The successful candidate will work well in a fast-paced environment, learn quickly, and possess lease or new accounting implementation experience. The ability to manage relationships cross functionally through clear communication of goals and objectives is extremely important.

Candidates for this position must have:

  • 3+ years accounting experience at a large growth company and/or Big 4
  • Intermediate technical accounting skills to translate guidance from our Accounting Policy Group into accounting steps
  • Strong process improvement skills; proficiency with spreadsheet and presentation software
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional, rapidly changing environment, and to lead and drive complex initiatives
  • Attention to detail, be organized and thorough with desire for continuous improvement
  • Good communications skills
  • SAP General Ledger system knowledge a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent required; CPA or Charted Accountant preferred
