Global Product Data Services is a newly formed team in the product and engineering organization under Customer Experiences and Technology. Its vision is to “Provide Enterprise Product Data at lower cost and better quality”. To achieve this we are looking for a Manager in Bangalore, India to lead a local Big Data Engineering team. This team is responsible for building big data solution design, development, delivery and support/management as well as corresponding tools & infrastructure to enable and optimize wide-range business use cases. Working closely with technical product management team and technical partners, you are expected to effectively mentor, transform & grow the team and team's capability 1. Manage and transform the team building Big Data platform and solutions. 2. Drive business delivery as a technical leader. 3. Lead technical infrastructure and capability build up. 4. Influence and align with business and technical global partners cross organizations at difference levels

Responsibilities include

•Ability to lead complex discussions and engagements that may involve multiple project 

teams from PayPal and our partner organizations.

•Construct a business and technical architecture that levers industry standards and use 

cases to create operating efficiency.

•Provide strategic guidance and direction to development teams.

•Manage stakeholder planning and communications for key product data outcomes.

•Oversee technical project delivery process with key contributors to help manage scope.

•Identify any product/functionality gaps and collaborate with internal product and 

technology teams to define the necessary development to support solution delivery.

•Be a technical subject matter expert and represent the full internal and external 

capabilities of the platform.

•Work closely with internal teams including compliance, privacy, risk, information security, 

support and operations to ensure all aspects of a launch are managed.

•Ensure engineering team implements optimal integration strategies, techniques and user experience best practices.

•Pro-active response in identifying and troubleshooting integration or technical issues.

•Capture and communicate experiences in formal post-mortem, feeding lessons learned, best practices and resources back into the engineering team.

•Participate in the development of architectures, strategies, and policies around data 

governance; including master data management, metadata management, data quality 

and data profiling.

•Ability to collaborate with PMO, peers and/or leaders from other infrastructure, product, 

and analytics teams to drive hard integration points and timelines for major deliverables.

•Ability to manage current business operations while transitioning the team to coach, mentor and ramp up on the required skills to build out the new platform vision for supporting Finance business operations.

•Keep abreast of new developments in the big data ecosystem, and constantly evaluate the strategy in partnership with the leadership team.

•Ability to assess new technologies and make pragmatic choices that points towards our long-term vision.

•Great verbal, communication and follow through skills

•Be able to motivate the team to innovate and contribute to open source as need arises.

Experience

•A computer science graduate or undergraduate degree or equivalent with 10+ years of

building large scalable and reliable enterprise technology platforms using Big Data open source technologies such as Hadoop, HBase, Spark, Kafka and Elastic Search / Solr.

•Experience with high-capacity data ingests using Kafka into Hadoop or Spark is highly desired.

•10+ years’ experience delivering enterprise solutions, data related benchmarking, performance analysis and tuning.

•5+ years’ experience with SQL and one or more DB’s - Oracle, MySQL, Teradata, Cassandra, Mongo DB.

•Experience in architecture, design and implementation of Financial Systems/Platforms, Financial reconciliation and reporting, Treasury, Tax, FP&A, etc.

•Passion for solving business problems with data.

•Great sense of engineering / process / infrastructure trade offs.

•Knowledge and experience working with heterogenous data sources like web services (rest, soap), unstructured data files, flat files, message queues, xml-based events, and databases.

•5+ years solid programming experience in languages like Java or Scala or Python or equivalent.

•Experience with building RESTful API’s is a plus.

•Experience with building real time application is a plus.

•Hands on experience with engineering developer tools- GIT, Dockerization, Continuous Integration frameworks etc.

•Experience working in agile software development model preferred.

•Experience working with cross-functional teams and geo locations.

•Experience with Tableau or other visualization tools is a plus.
