As part of PayPal’s Corporate Affairs organization, the Leadership Communications team is responsible for developing and executing strategic executive engagement programs that showcase the company’s impact and thought leadership, as well as engage key stakeholders to promote PayPal’s reputation globally. This newly created role will report to the Director of Leadership Communications & Strategic Partnerships, and will partner with the team (and broader Corporate Affairs function) to develop and advance a holistic communications program (internally and externally) for our Risk, Regulatory and Protection Services (RRPS) business.

The successful candidate will leverage strong subject matter expertise and written/verbal communication skills, as well as strategy development and project management capabilities, to build an important new pillar of PayPal’s Leadership Communications & Employee Engagement program. As a team leader and primary interface between the Communications team and the RRPS team, this individual will serve as the central contact for all internal and external communications needs. This includes (but isn’t limited to) the development/continued evolution of the integrated communications strategy; consistently excellent execution on all executive engagements inside and outside the company; development/continued evolution of narratives/messaging; and ongoing monitoring/evaluation. This role will also collaborate across the full breadth of the Corporate Affairs team to support cross-functional initiatives and ensure that this new program is both integrated with and helps to advance our various global Communications priorities and reputation goals.

Responsibilities to Include

  • Build PayPal's reputation as a trusted and purpose-driven brand by developing/continually evolving the thought leadership platform of our Risk, Regulatory and Protection Services (RRPS) business; ensure alignment to key business objectives and strategic integration with other Leadership Communications & Employee Engagement programs.
  • Build and evolve key corporate narratives and messaging that emanate out from this organization in an ongoing and collaborative manner; contribute new messaging as necessary for issue areas that relate specifically to this part of the business.
  • Develop robust editorial calendar of thought leadership content opportunities and manage the development of a wide array of related written material to execute against this calendar; this includes (but isn’t limited to) short-/long-form contributed content (e.g., op-eds), new research, trends/insights pieces, key messaging and briefing material for other channels (e.g., video), etc.
  • Collaboratively design a proactive media engagement strategy/plan and manage inbound requests; also support proactive communications announcements that come out of this part of the business. Similarly partner across the organization to manage and prepare for strategic engagement with stakeholders across the government and public policy domains.
  • Develop and manage calendar of strategic external speaking opportunities and provide the necessary content support to ensure flawless execution against it (e.g., speeches and talking points); cultivate relationships with key event organizers and other influencers to build profile and consideration.
  • Develop and execute against social media strategy for key influencer engagement, content amplification and overall corporate reputation building.
  • Outline leadership communications framework for other subject matter expert spokespeople within this organization, which drafts from the top-level thought leadership platform (i.e., how the next level of leaders will be strategically developed/deployed).
  • Support consistent and sustained progress on key business priorities through the ongoing management of strategic internal communications and employee engagement programs.
  • Build the internal reputation of RRPS and key leaders to continually foster deep awareness and understanding of our business at all levels, as well as drive greater collaboration and engagement across functions and geographies.
  • Provide communications expertise and draw in other partners as necessary for key internal initiatives, such as business transformation/organizational change efforts, emerging reputation opportunities/challenges, etc.

Job Requirements

  • Strong connection to PayPal’s brand and our mission & vision. Demonstrated values-based leadership approach.
  • 10+ years of experience in communications or related field.
  • Previous communications experience and strong degree of comfort on a wide range of related subject matters, including risk management and financial crime, regulatory engagement and compliance, emerging risk as a service business models, and global entity management/governance. 
  • Previous experience working across other communications channels/disciplines (e.g., media relations, digital/social media, etc.) – agency experience recommended but not required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of landscape and trends not only in the leadership communications space, but also the broader financial services and technology ecosystems.
  • Highly collaborative and comfortable working in a matrixed environment. Strong EQ, quickly builds trusted relationships internally/externally and approaches every opportunity with a positive/can-do attitude.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset – thinks creatively and outside the box, brings outside-in thinking to every project, and always figures out a way to get things done.
  • Global orientation – experience in international market recommended, but not required.
  • Strong organizational skills – ability to successfully manage multiple projects/deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree in law, business administration or related field preferred.
