Director, M&A Rewards With PayPal’s increased commitment to M&A activity as publicly announced by our CEO ( we have the need for a dedicated M&A Rewards Leader. The Director, M&A Rewards role reporting directly to the VP of Total Rewards is responsible for driving the HR Rewards M&A lifecycle from project kickoff through due diligence, integration planning and integration execution. This role acts as a Rewards project lead on acquisitions, mergers, and divestitures of small and medium sized companies and a sub-leader on the largest, most complex acquisitions. As part of the Rewards team, the Rewards M&A lead, is responsible for providing scalable, repeatable, and transferable processes and tools to further evolve PayPal’s People M&A capabilities in line with deal volume and requirements. Responsibilities include supporting and driving a robust Rewards M&A plan to drive integration success, minimize execution risks, and drive efficiencies while also identifying opportunities to enhance the current model.


•         You  will be responsible for partnering with cross-functional teams and executing a wide range of strategic activities related to mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures.

•         You will liaison with the compensation and benefits teams, stock compensation team and global mobility teams and serve as the M & A Rewards Lead to execute on the Rewards integration activities including compensation, benefits, equity, HR operations and technology, Rewards strategy, and the broader enterprise-wide integration efforts including change management, organization design and workforce transition.

•         Synthesize and present HR due diligence reports and recommendations. Quantify major areas of HR Rewards risk and opportunities, e.g. labor expenses, severance, benefits.

•         Plan and manage the Rewards aspects of the integration of acquisitions with appropriate HR Leads across the globe and ensure the work is executed on time with high quality.

•         Own, Plan, execute and lead the analysis / modeling of compensation and job leveling activities.

•         Provide excellent customer service to acquired employees by thinking proactively about their pre- and post- close experience while helping to resolve any issues / questions.

•         Document and maintain the Rewards strategic initiatives playbook, tracking best practices, repeatable approaches and lessons learned. Lead retrospectives with a mindset of constant improvement.

•         Build and innovate the M & A Rewards playbook by identifying ways to improve the employee experience during deals - via automation, simplification or other types of process improvement; partnering cross-functionally to influence and implement change.


•         BS/MS degree with at least 12+ years of experience in a compensation and benefits role or Master’s Degree with 10+ years of experience in a compensation and benefits role

.       Prior experience in M&A integration

•         Advanced experience interacting with all parties associated with a deal setting (e.g. legal team, finance, other 3rd party advisors, etc.)

•         Pre-deal M&A activities and the ability to interact with a potential target’s management team

•         Post-deal M&A integration activities including leading prior acquisition integration activities for the human resources and total rewards function

•         Experience with financial analysis and reporting, market analysis and gathering competitive intelligence, particularly in relation to M&A activity

•         Implementing total rewards programs and communication philosophy and training to acquired employee populations

•         Strong analytical and technical skills and ability to critically review, summarize, and report findings

•         Work with highly sensitive and confidential material and sound business judgment

•         Previous experience with Workday software system

•         Initiative, creativity, along with the ability to craft clear communications both written and verbally

•         Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

•         Creative troubleshooting skills

•         Possess excellent judgment and professional maturity

•         Multi-tasking abilities, have a client focus, adaptive, and work effectively in a time sensitive and vibrant environment
