In this role you will get an opportunity to define, orchestrate, and enable critical data initiatives across multiple business partners all over PayPal delivering value through the power of data and data driven insights. As head of data governance you will have opportunity to define policies associated with data management, socialization and working with stakeholders to implement and track the effectiveness of the implementation. Given the high-profile nature of Data governance, this role offers regular visibility to senior management and the opportunity to materially impact PayPal’s business. It will also give you broad exposure across PayPal, you will develop a deep understanding of the business from end to end.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate as a thought leader and visionary, with the ability to guide, impact and inspire peak performance, innovation and adoption of data and analytics solutions across the PayPal value chain.
  • Own the strategy and Drive consistent / best-in-class Data Governance (Meta Data Management / Data Cataloging, Data Quality, Master Data Management, & lineage) across all parts of the PayPal business and 50+ data domains.
  • In partnerhship with the business, establishes and maintains a Data Quality and Stewardship Framework, which consists of policies, standard operating procedures, measures, standards and requirements, in order to foster awareness, trust, and strengthen ownership and accountability.
  • Serves as the product owner and guides the business requirements for Master Data Management & governance platforms, tools and capabilities.
  • Creates a data democratization and ensure PayPal Data is discoverable, catalogued, catergorized and available to support a variety of data products and services.
  • Responsible for the communication and change management plan for Enterprise Information Management with data stewards and business owners.
  • Collaborates with senior stakeholders and PayPal legal Compliance in developing recommendations around policies, privacy standards and framework(s) for data governance and controls.
  • Conceptualize, develop, and communicate global master data programs in alignment with business strategy serving as a MDM thought leader.
  • Design and develop frameworks and data quality control mechanisms to ensure highest levels of data integrity and quality across PayPal.
  • Constant monitoring of master data against the currently used data in various business processes to identify the gaps, discrepancies and the opportunities to further improve quality of master data.
  • Establish and implement an Enterprise Metadata Strategy that provides consistency across all PayPal Data domains but also flexibility for evolution and growth based on business needs.
  • Partner with PayPal business leaders to establish scalable data stewardship roles and processes.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in MDM, reference or transactional data management, data governance, data engineering data architecture, data modeling or data analysis experience
  • 10 years of program management and project management experience
  • Experience with MDM tools or products (e.g. SAP MDG, Informatica, etc)
  • Strong skills in team leadership and building positive business partner relationships
  • Strong networking skills and ability to work across multiple organizations to accomplish diverse goals
  • Demonstrated ability to influence critical business outcomes in a matrix based, global environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills to effectively communicate with both business and technical development teams

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment

  • Familiarity with data privacy laws and controls (like: GDPR)

  • Experience working with data & analytic solutions and the science behind them, either as a builder/provider of these solutions or as a client that uses them.

  • Familiarity with the trends and opportunities in the data governance, analytics & big data space

  • Experience in thought leadership in emerging master data management technologies including machine learning and AI

  • Experience and deep knowledge of metadata management and tools strongly preferred

Education:

BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Business or related field
