Work closely with the PayPal SVP of Enterprise Architecture and the leadership team, leading all aspects of the day to day strategy and operations, inclusive of strategy formulation, financial governance, investment decisioning, operating reporting and rhythms, stakeholder engagement and employee engagement. Act as a trusted adviser to the SVP of Enterprise Architecture providing counsel and serving as a sounding board to influence, inform and as necessary challenge decisions; leveraging both inside and outside perspectives. The Director of Business Operations promotes solid execution and fact-based decision-making across the organization; acting as the ‘connective tissue’ that links all aspects of the organization seamlessly. The Director of Business Operations will ensure the operating model, OKR’s, investment plan and portfolio are designed and implemented to deliver against the defined strategy. This position will report into the SVP of Enterprise Architecture and dotted line into the Sr. Director of Business Operations for the Technology Platforms & Experiences (TPX) organization. Support for this role will be provided by the Centralized Business Operations function that reports into the Sr. Director of Business Operations for TPX. The ideal candidate has proven experience working closely with executives, in a fast-paced environment; applying strong consultative skills, including business acumen, customer empathy, and the ability to influence and partner. This person thrives in a dynamic, global, fluid, matrix environment and is results-focused.  Is comfortable leading from both the front and the rear, as situations dictate. History in communications, business & strategy development preferred.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Trusted advisor to the SVP:  Serve as on-the-ground execution for a wide variety of cross-functional projects for both the SVP and leadership team.  Ability to navigate internal networks and build internal consensus is a must.
  • Strategic thinking and research: Bring outside-in thinking to the organization, highlighting industry trends that should be considered and evaluated. Act as a disruptor questioning the status-quo. Drive all aspects of the development of the organizations’ strategy.
  • Organizational and operating discipline: Create and manage operating routines that facilitate decision-making, autonomy, leadership alignment, and team engagement, inclusive of staff meetings, operational reviews, leadership off sites, All Hands, etc. Set the agenda, facilitate discussion and communicate outcomes. Work closely with leaders across the organization to develop goals and Objectives and Key Results; develop systems for managing performance against those goals. Ensure effective organizational change execution in partnership with Centralized Business Operations, Finance, People, Comms, and other key organizations
  • Program & portfolio management:  Work with the Enterprise PMO team to initiate and provide oversight of key enterprise programs; drive compliance with enterprise best practices and standards.  Aggregate programs as a portfolio, ensuring the portfolio delivers against desired business outcomes.
  • Technology business management:  Work with Finance Business Partners to ensure strong financial hygiene, that all targets are met or exceeded, that investments are properly decisioned and in-support of the required business outcomes.
  • Executional accelerator for leadership: Develop policies and/or processes necessary to implement decisions made by the leadership team.  Help to manage the SVP’s direct staff and facilitate accountability for key priorities. Assist with talent matters as needed.
  • Communications for the SVP: Create/shape presentations for Executive Leadership and public appearances.
  • People operations: Partnering with HR Business Partners, co-lead implementation of employee lifecycle: manage and rollout programs that attract, acquire, retain, evaluate, grow, promote, talent. Ensure effective organizational communication: keep the organization well-informed through various established channels of communications; drive organizational awareness of culture, policy, organizational updates, decisions, etc.; ensure high employee engagement through following implemented policies and procedures.
  • Technology risk management: Manage/govern all risks within the Enterprise Architecture organization; maintain compliancy and apply standard best practices effectively.
