Reporting directly to the Managing Director UK, the Director, Business Operations will drive multi-disciplinary operating rhythms and transformation initiatives that will help shape, implement, and manage the organization’s operating plan and strategy. The person will be an active member of U.K. Leadership Team, acting as a proxy for the U.K. Managing Director and UK LE Segment Leader when appropriate to ensure consistent cross segment and function alignment. Key stakeholders include executives across the enterprise, product management, engineering teams, Finance, the People team (HR) as well as the Core Markets Commercial Team and directors of other markets. The role therefore requires the ability to build and leverage multiple internal and external relationships.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensuring the effectiveness of U.K. weekly and monthly leadership interactions.
  • Leading the annual planning process and owning the market plan.
  • Acting as an internal consultant and change agent, collaborating closely with different teams to achieve results while also challenging and improving established ways of working.
  • Advising on and leading the creation and review of business cases and plans.  Quantifying the impact of strategic initiatives in terms of financial results and other KPIs (e.g. customer acquisition).
  • Partnering on the development of insights into positive and adverse trends through quantitative and qualitative internal and external research, resulting in outline strategic recommendations.
  • Leading cross-functional initiatives in support of PayPal UK strategic goals. Making strategic recommendations based on a thorough understanding of the customer, competitive environment and internal organisation & capabilities.

Skills/Experience

  • Min. 7-year experience gained in leadership roles in Banking, Strategy, Commercial, Growth, Consultancy. First-hand experience of U.K. B2C commerce as a business leader would be advantageous. 
  • Demonstrated ability to combine strategic thinking with project leadership and hands-on execution. Can bring structure and multi-task across work streams, driving them forward whilst ensuring the team don’t get lost in the details.
  • Experienced in business case development, market and opportunity sizing and preparing strategic recommendations for senior executives.
  • Data-driven. Highly numerate and comfortable analysing large & complex data sets. Experience with business intelligence solutions desirable.
  • Customer focused; naturally includes customer perspective in plans, decisions and actions.
  • Experienced in building strong relationships with people from different functions and backgrounds; comfortable communicating and interacting with senior executives. Can Deliver projects and execute in a complex matrix organisation with many different stakeholders.

Education

Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree or equivalent
