The Senior Marketing Manager, Direct Mail will own our in-house Direct Mail marketing program across all products in support of Paypal Business Financing Solutions’ lending portfolio. This role reports to the Head of Channel Optimization and is accountable for the planning, executing, optimizing, targeting and performance that feed the highly scrutinized P&L aligned to this channel.

What will make you successful in this role?

The impactful owner of this channel possesses impeccable written and verbal communications skills, speaking to the results and conveying the stories behind the wins and losses.  Further, this person must be organized, paying attention to the most minute of details as levers are pulled and buttons are pushed in the channel-management process.  Further, this person must be an analytical thinker, relying on the numbers to steer the ship through both creative and targeting optimizations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Further evolve acquisitions-based Direct Mail program. Own the strategies that produce scaled and profitable results across mailed products.
  • Own the end-to-end Direct Mail roadmaps across the portfolio.  This is inclusive of targeting and segmentation, tactical and creative agendas, budget justification and forecasted results.
  • Manage the P&L across mailed products. (In partnership with the Head of Channel Optimization) accountable for the forecast, monthly reforecast and budget aligned to Direct Mail  
  • Own the targeting and segmentation strategy. Partner with Analytics to develop and execute upon the roadmap to covert both prospects and existing PayPal customers
  • Develop & manage the creative testing matrix.  This includes testing into new/control-buster mail pieces, landing pages and customer paths to acquisitions; working together with Analytics to ensure all tests are designed to reach statistical significance with unquestionable results.
  • Own the strategy and testing agenda to drive down operating expenses. Align with external vendor partners and internal resources to perpetually push operational efficiency gains, driving costs down.
  • Own the metrics and KPI’s. Work with Analytics to define what is measured along the acquisitions waterfall, from gross response rate to back-end conversions, for every campaign you own, using this arsenal of data to both optimize performance and present the campaign performance story, the “so what”, to the broader team.
  • Vendor management.  Own the relationship with our external Direct Mail partners, collaborating with them to brainstorm, strategize and optimize across campaigns.
  • Single point of contact across internal stakeholders: Lead strategy and execution in support of Direct Mail across Creative, Campaign Management, Analytics, Technology, Legal and Compliance teams

Qualifications & background:

  • Undergraduate degree required, concentration in marketing preferred
  • 8+ years managing acquisitions-based/direct-response Direct Mail programs for financial institutions, insurance providers and/or established retailers
  • 5+ years managing outside agencies and vendors
  • Annual budget accountability exceeding $10MM
  • Better understanding of the metrics and KPI’s that define success in your space than your Analytics counterparts
  • “Ownership” mentality and pride of work
  • Strong deck development and presentation skills
  • Proven to be the source for industry insights among peers and leadership team
  • Outrageous attention to detail
