At Core Data Platforms, we’re looking for passionate engineers who want to get their hands dirty building and maintaining the infrastructure that supported 227 million active accounts and $451 billion dollars in payment volume last year, while delivering five nines of uptime. The Database team is responsible for fulfilling all database infrastructure needs of PayPal site. This includes database builds, systems support, storage engineering and site operations. We support and maintain cutting edge database use cases and operate at massive scale – it’s a job like no other!


The role includes working with both traditional RDBMS database systems (Oracle, MySQL) as well as NoSQL (Cassandra, Aerospike and Couchbase).  You’ll also have the chance to learn systems and storage administration. Candidates should have strong technical skills and passion for infrastructure engineering. Database or systems administration experience is a plus. Strong Shell, Perl, and Python scripting experience highly desirable. Ansible or Puppet experience a plus.


Job Requirements


  • Provide Database support and engineering for 24/7 environment.
  • Partnering with peers in product development and other operational teams to enable business and deliver projects.
  • Triage incidents and identify root cause
  • Strive to achieve PayPal’s availability goals of five nines.
  • SQL review/tuning and suggest areas of improvements
  • Deliver various DB changes to PayPal's mission critical production databases.
  • Able to gel with a large team of DBAs, Operations groups, Capacity, and ETL team and willing to share knowledge
  • Follow change management and security guidelines and execute critical change requests
  • Shell, Perl, and/or Python to deliver on automation following SDLC approach.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to document and enhance process-oriented approach.
  • Must be able to Multi-task and prioritize without much supervision
