This position enables the discovery, protection, and measurement of high value data, analyzes findings from a variety of security tools, validates incidents and drives solutions as needed.   This position also maintains and operates current commercial and customized tools in the data security space.

  • Support the data security program strategy in Discovery, Auditing, and other key Data Security priorities.
  • Automation and process uplift including identifying gaps, participating in POC to implementation delivery required.
  • Ensure high priority issues are addressed commensurate with issues
  • Operations of tools and capabilities – availability, performance, security

Primary Job Responsibilities

Triage, analysis and validation of data security incidents Drive partner teams to remediate gaps Participates in process automation and uplift of current processes to improve time to resolution. Aggregate information from various data security streams and provide state-of-the-art metrics that are transparent, reliable and reflect ground-reality of the various data security controls. Effectively analyze standards of data security programs and participate in data security policy reviews and apply changes to and maintain data security tools.

Ability to Communicate:

  • Current state to leadership as well as project/program status
  • Operations Data Discovery and Monitoring platforms across PayPal Holdings.
  • Participate in security design reviews and provide subject matter expertise to assess security implications for introduction of new or different technologies within the environment and proper data protection strategies.
  • Identify security gaps, evaluate and propose appropriate remediation strategy
  • Actively engage with Compliance, Privacy and Data Governance on data security aspects

Primary Job Skills

Experience and skill in incident management and participation in incident handling. Ability to identify data security issues, articulate risk of incidents, partner with teams to resolve. Experience and good understanding of Data Lifecycle and also the tools and capabilities necessary for Data Protection is a plus. Strong real-world experience with one or more of the following technologies  is required:

  • Stream Processing ecosystem (e.g. Kafka, Storm, Samza) 
  • Hadoop-ecosystem technologies (e.g. Presto, Spark, Flink, Druid, Beam)
  • NoSQL (e.g. Cassandra, Aerospike, Couchbase)

Information Retrieval (search/recommendation/classification), incident investigation and management. Possess sound judgment, flexibility and nimbleness in changing courses and solving problems swiftly. Ability to multitask effortlessly and manage competing priorities under demanding deadlines

Background required:

  • Proven experience in ability to design Software and data centric solutions
  • 3+ years in Security role of incident investigation
  • 4+ DB/data warehouse expertise
  • Ability to work in large and complex environments with cross-functional collaboration
  • Knowledgeable in application development and deployment
  • Experience in designing and developing Java, Node.js or python/Django applications on top of RESTful APIs a plus.
  • Data Visualization experience a plus.
  • Solid data mining and machine learning expertise is a plus
