Data Science Manager – Credit Risk Model Validation will report to the Head of Model Risk Management. The Model Risk Management Function performs independent validation and approval of models that have significant financial, business, and risk management impact.


Role and Responsibilities

•    Perform quantitative and qualitative validation of all aspects of credit risk models including data, model design and implementation, statistical estimations, assumptions and limitations
•    Lead CECL/IFRS9 related 2nd line risk oversight to ensure adequacy of loan loss reserve and overall governance of reserve monitoring and reporting
•    Represent independent 2nd line risk oversight including effective challenges in loss reserve working group discussions/decisions
•    Develop deep understanding of credit portfolio products and customer behavior, and be able to empirically test and benchmark loan performance metrics as part of model validation
•    Work on various other validation and modeling assignments (mostly statistical and machine learning models) 
•    Collaborate with business units, financial controller and model developers to remediate model issues and provide subject-matter expert opinion on model improvements 

Qualifications

This position requires to be familiar with credit scoring, loan loss reserves, commercial and retail lending. It also requires building effective relationship with various stakeholders including business managers, model owners, and risk managers. This position must possess excellent communication, writing and presentation skills.

  • An advanced degree in a quantitative field, such as statistics, mathematics, computer science or engineering, Ph.D. highly preferred
  • 6+ years of experience in credit risk modeling and CECL/IFRS9/GAAP related credit loss model development or validation in financial industry
  • Modeling experience in credit scoring, PD, LGD and EAD for consumer and/or commercial credit portfolios
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical and machine learning models (e.g., logistic regression, time series analysis, random forests, XGBoost, neural networks) and big data programming skills (e.g., Python, Hadoop, SQL, etc.)
  • A track record of leading projects and building relationship with stakeholders and influencing decision makers
