Graph & Linking Analytical Infra team is looking for a Data researcher to join the team and take an important position in our role of building and evolving PayPals Graph DB environments and developing and enabling Data scientists across PayPal to develop advanced graph applications.


PayPal’s Global Data Sciences team is responsible for developing and enhancing machine learning and data mining capabilities, which are key in PayPal’s top-of-the-line data-driven decisions, especially in the risk and counter-fraud domains. Our researchers overcome challenges presented by big data, evolving fraud techniques and new payment technologies by leveraging domain expertise and creating sophisticated data-driven products which enable us to make the best possible decisions to protect Paypal’s customers.

We are looking for somebody with good understanding of data problems, great analytical skills and the capability to drive deliveries from an idea to production.  The researcher will:

  • Lead the team’s portfolio of data solutions, which are at the core of PayPal’s risk decisioning
  • Perform the relevant analytical research, data mining and extracting information in PayPal’s Big Data environment to identify gaps and possible improvements in those solutions
  • Manage the product-related aspect of the portfolio - define, drive forward and coordinate the analytical and technical execution of new and existing data solutions
  • Collaborate with all relevant stakeholders (software engineers, analytical customers, data scientists) to deliver state-of-the-art data products

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent proficiency in SQL
  • Code writing capability in any programming language (Python, R, Scala, etc.)
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering or similar. Average 85 and above from top universities.
  • 1-2 years related work experience (data analyst, technical product manager, or similar) – an advantage
  • Hadoop experience (MapReduce, PIG, Hive, Spark) – an advantage
  • Graph DB experience – an advantage
  • Experience in Machine-Learning, Data Mining or Statistics – an advantage
  • Quick-thinker, fast learner, wide general knowledge, problem solver
  • Team worker, responsible , delivery-oriented
