TMIS is part of Finance & Analytical Data Services team is within the Commons Platforms organization. The TMIS team in conjunction with Strategy, Finance and other cross functional partners, is building the new generation Analytics and Executive reporting solution including a Top Management Information Systems (TMIS) portal. Initially targeted for PayPal SLT & Executive team, TMIS is expanding the user population and modernizing the solutions in order to drive the vision on how we monitor, understand, and evaluate our performance as a company. Key Features include: • Clear Vital Top Management KPI’s across PayPal entities • Transparent Dashboard for Monthly Reviews & Rhythms • Governance & Certification of all metrics • Rich visual & Easy Navigation with drill Down/Graph Capabilities The TMIS Team is looking for a full time experienced, customer-oriented, business-focused, and analytically-driven Data Engineer to support the US TMIS operations and solution engineering delivery in US. The Data Engineer will interface with teams, customer and leaders alike to ensure seamless technological support of business process by ensuring the technologies we support are not an inhibitor to the business process. • Ensure Quality - Base the delivery model on best practices to drive efficiency / manage risks • Operational Excellence - Deliver on all commitments with no business disruption • Be accountable for continuous improvements. • Communicate effectively to instill confidence, as well as build trust and strengthen partnerships Because the position requires interaction with geographically-disbursed teams the candidate must be a self-starter with technical acumen & engineering development skills, analytics/troubleshooting skills, and comfortable working with distributed teams without direct management oversight day to day. He/she must be able to collaborate with the product owners, financial stakeholders, users as well as other technology teams to drive alignment around TMIS Services, Solutions and Support for PayPal. Process development and optimization, as well as deliverables management will be a focus for the role.

Essential Functions (Tasks and Responsibilities):

  • Provides day to day operational support and monitoring of TMIS and Executive reporting solutions to ensure SLAs are met.
  • Works closely on Month, Quarter & year End close processes including monthly forecast flip to ensure accurate and timely changes are reflected in all systems.
  • Works with PayPal business units and Product Dev teams to design, develop and deliver TMIS & Executive Reporting data solutions on one of the largest data platforms in the world.
  • Supports PayPal business units by providing real time instrumentation & PKIs for leadership for to drive decision support around critical financial business processes.
  • Ensures their code is well-commented, easy to maintain, and can be reused across a sub-system or feature. Code may persist for the lifetime of a software version. Code is thoroughly tested with very few bugs, and is supported by unit tests.
  • Leads feature or sub-system design reviews and code reviews and be recognized as the go-to developer for that component.
  • Prepares artifacts and documentation for  component design reviews and code reviews and is fully recognized as the go-to developer for that component.
  • Participates in architecture discussions, proposes and discusses solutions to system and product changes that are directly related to their area of focus.
  • Should be comfortable working in an agile environment and with cross-functional teams, should have appetite to learn and be flexible to pick up new technology.
  • Other Role Responsibilities include:
    • Participating and collaborating with cross functional teams in the organization to understand the business requirements and to deliver solutions that can scale.
    • Planning the execution of the project assignments in an effective and efficient manner.
    • Proactively anticipating problems and appropriately communicating to the team and management in a timely manner.
    • Being flexible and being able to support all functions of product life cycle when required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 4-6 years of past professional Data Engineering development or consulting experience in web and mobile applications system design, deployment and support.
  • Advanced Shell or Perl scripting experience or proficiency in any programming language like C, C++ or CORE Java
  • Working experience in any MPP systems (Certified Teradata developer is a plus); Should have strong SQL programming skills
  • Working knowledge on an ETL tools (ie. Informatica / Ab Initio, etc.) is preferable.
  • Experience with data warehousing architecture and data modeling best practices
  • Experience with Unix file Systems, server architectures, and distributed systems
  • Can be relied on to deliver a data pipeline on time and to requirements, without data quality issues.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Can triage and resolve data / process issues 
  • Familiar with various big data technologies (Teradata, Hadoop, etc), open source data processing frameworks. Evaluates and implements data solutions with various big-data technologies.
  • Good understanding of data processing, data structure optimization and design for scalability.
  • Good understanding of REST-oriented APIs including understanding of distributed systems, data movement and optimizing ETL processing of extremely large datasets for SLAs.
  • Excellent communication and team player skills to collaborate with cross functional teams for successful delivery of Data solutions.
  • Understanding of version control systems, JIRA, GIT, etc. and SOX oversight or release management.
  • Knowledge of Elastic Search, Hadoop, HBase and Hive is highly preferred

Preferred Technical Capabilities:  (past experience that will help this person be successful)

  • Experience using OLAP reporting tools such as Notebooks, Mircostrategy, Qlikview, Tableau, Business Objects, etc.  Comfortable learning new tools and generating reports for analysis
  • Adapt learning new technologies and an end user perspective
  • Proficient with MS PowerPoint and MS Excel
  • Project management experience organizing tasks and tracking deliverables
  • Knowledge of Scheduling Tools is a plus (UC4, Control-M, etc.)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Expertise in database programming and performance tuning techniques; Teradata experience is a plus
  • Good understanding of database principles and SQL beyond just data access.
