Within SRE, the Actionable Insights (SRE-AI) team uses machine learning and data science to solve problems from capacity and efficiency to driving down Mean Time to Resolve (MTTR) and Mean Time to Detect (MTTD).  We’re always looking at how to make data-driven decisions and automating our work using AIOps and DevOps concepts. 

A successful Data Analyst within the SRE-AI team will be responsible for the implementation of ITIL/ITSM KPI dashboards that will allow teams to track a standard set of metrics that are used as Operational Level Agreements (OLAs) in order to increase the quality, reliability, and efficiency of our platform.  They will be so comfortable with data that they envision charts and graphs when faced with a problem.  This role will require a strong knowledge of data visualization tools including previous experience with Tableau, PowerBI, or QlikView.  This Data Analyst role will be designing, implementing, and iterating with user feedback for dashboards built with Tableau. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Understand how to make data visually appealing and simple to both navigate and comprehend for end-users 

  • Aggregate data from various sources in order to construct streamlined data pipelines and join data from multiple PayPal systems 

  • Convert requirements from industry standard ITIL/ITSM into actionable dashboards 

  • Be the source of knowledge for best practices for visualization of data 

  • Transform data using Python and Jupyter Notebooks and further analyze data to identify patterns 

  • Train others on how to use Tableau to visualize their data 

  • Lead and participate in special projects/initiatives: innovate and implement large-scale quality improvements to processes and/or systems by conducting data analysis and making recommendations, troubleshooting technical issues, and refining processes around customer support 

  • Present insights to leaders and socialize best practices for consumption of data 

Qualifications and Experience

  • BA/BS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Mining or related field or equivalent practical experience 

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in Data Analysis, Research, Site Reliability Engineering or related industry 

  • Experience with Python, Java, Tableau, Jupyter Notebooks, Teradata, Hadoop/Hive, Oracle, JavaScript, SQL, Airflow, Linux, Perl, PHP 

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in one of the following areas: quantitative analysis, economics, internet technology, online search, eCommerce, online payments or online advertising and publishing 

  • SRE, Production Engineering, Operations, DevOps 

  • Demonstrated analytical thinking through data-driven decisions, as well as the technical know-how, charisma, and ability to work with your team to make a big impact 

  • Knowledge of database structures and/or working with Unix/Linux 

  • Outstanding leadership, influencing, communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
