The Content Taxonomist is a scientist at heart or by trade, responsible for identifying, classifying, naming and organising company knowledge for the Global Customer Operations organisation. The GCO Content organisation is embarking on a three-year journey to transform static unstructured content to an atomic, semantically rich, structured format. We consider a clear taxonomy structure the foundational basis for our transformation success. As such, the taxonomist will be responsible for supporting the transformation by discovering structures implicit in company knowledge, exploring how they relate to one another, and abstracting principles of organisation that will be applied to all content assets. He or she will user-test the principles and work with stakeholders to ensure the taxonomy serves their purposes as much as possible.

RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Develop a deep understanding of customer journeys and tasks customers are trying to complete; align taxonomy to customer needs; enable customers to complete their tasks more easily, quickly and effortlessly.
  • Participate in data analysis, design, documentation, and maintenance of intuitive, structured content taxonomies.
  • Set up taxonomies in a new tool.
  • Create a clear and intuitive browse structure for authors and customers alike supporting customer journeys.
  • Collaborate with product owners to deliver context-aware search and content delivery in various channels.
  • Create a sustainable taxonomy structure and establish semantically rich network of relationships between terms and components, enabling machines to read and configure content intelligently at various endpoints.
  • Collaborate with engineers, authors and stakeholders to set up and manage taxonomy tool. Communicate structures and corresponding actions horizontally and vertically. Assist authors in implementation and support through on-boarding/ learning phase.
  • Participate in data analysis, design, documentation, and maintenance of intuitive, structured content taxonomies
  • Review existing taxonomies and metadata schemas, design new in line with customer journey design as needed.
  • Help bridge the gap between the language customers use to search our Help Center and the language we use in classifying our content; work with Content Strategist to make content recommendations that bring our language closer to customer problem statements.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 3 years’ experience designing and managing taxonomies or thesauri
  • Experience with taxonomy management tools and incorporating taxonomies into content models
  • Experience with usability testing and user experience optimization Experience working in Knowledge Organization Systems
  • Familiarity with taxonomy and thesauri standards
  • Familiarity with interoperability standards including SKOS (Simple Knowledge Organization System), RDF (Resource Description Framework), and OWL (Web Ontology Language)
  • Knowledge of mark-up languages such as XML, HTML
  • Knowledge of web publishing standards such as DITA
  • Experience with Oracle Knowledge Management and Idiom Worldserver
  • Experience using JIRA, Confluence or similar tool
  • Experience with troubleshooting or resolving issues/ bugs
  • Firm understanding of user experience and strong search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM) skills
  • Experience with automation and AI technology
  • Experience and knowledge in authoring best practices

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS/BA or higher degree in related field required or equivalent professional work-related experience.
  • 3+years’ experience working in Information Science, Library Science, Computational Linguistics, Knowledge Management, or related field.
