PayPal’s World Ready Team is looking for an adaptable, high performing, motivated and self-reliant Computational Linguist who has direct experience and passion for working with language data and the ability to help create, categorize, audit, and improve lexical data.

What you’ll do at PayPal:

  • Develop natural language processing code specific to the languages supported by PayPal.
  • Leverage the power of large amounts of data to solve complex NLP challenges.
  • Provide input and suggestions towards innovating new approaches and features tailored to localized PayPal product content language processing.
  • Apply linguistic knowledge, statistical models and artificial intelligence technologies to contribute to the architecture and development of new NLP systems.
  • Automate and integrate workflows from diverse systems.
  • Contribute to the development and integration of algorithms.
  • Design and lead projects through the full development and testing cycle.

Key Qualifications:

  • B.S/MSc in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields OR degree in Computational Linguistics
  • Excellent knowledge of structural aspects of the language (syntax, semantics, phonology, phonetics)
  • Extensive NLP expertise (including significant experience with artificial neural networks)
  • Strong comprehension of language-related communication opportunities and challenges
  • Up-to-date exposure to popular native culture and the ability to use that knowledge to inform data analysis
  • Previous experience working with language data (e.g. research, analysis, translation, review)
  • Familiarity with Python, R, DBMS
  • Familiarity with Java, Perl and shell scripting is a plus
  • Experience using OS X or iOS software is a plus
  • Good organizational and analytical skills
  • Excellent skills in English and in at least one other language; additional language skills are a plus
  • Strong communication skills
  • Attention to detail, and proven ability to manage priorities
