As part of the Corporate Affairs team, PayPal’s Customer Experience & Technology Public Relations team is responsible for sharing the company’s compelling story and educating stakeholder groups including merchants, consumers, media, influencers and analysts on how PayPal products can help them in their daily life as they manage and move money personally or professionally.

This role will help design and execute proactive public relations campaigns to build awareness and understanding of how PayPal, Venmo and Xoom are changing people’s relationship with money and each other, so when someone decides to shop on their phone, split a dinner bill or send money internationally, they know who to trust.

We are seeking someone who is creative, works quickly, and isn't afraid of a tough policy conversation. S/he has an open mind but thinks critically and can identify potential risks and opportunities associated with creative decisions (all while creating nuanced messaging to manage numerous possible outcomes). An ability to work collaboratively is also essential, as this person will work closely with multiple product and marketing teams and other members of the consumer communications team to achieve results. This position reports to the Head of Global Consumer Communications.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of proactive PR campaigns that increase awareness and understanding of PayPal’s products and brands among consumers, both during launch moments and throughout the year
  • Build and maintain relationships with key media and influencer contacts including journalists, bloggers and celebrities
  • Craft engaging pitches and story ideas about consumer-oriented topics (i.e. news, national and world moments, lifestyle and personal finance) and product launches that people want to share
  • Develop and write a wide range of communications materials including messaging, press plans, blog posts, social content, reactive statements, presentations and briefing materials
  • Tackle day-to-day media inquiries and briefings
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and work well cross-functionally both internally and with external agencies
  • Contribute and collaborate with PayPal’s global communications team
  • Prepare and deliver PR performance reports to leadership

    Job Requirements

  • Strong relationships with consumer and technology media in the U.S.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a highly matrixed, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to deliver communications programs that consider the strategic business priorities
  • A deep understanding of social media best practices, platforms and measurement.  Previous experience working with social media measurement tools at or for an established global brand a plus.
  • A team player attitude with strong interpersonal skills who is also a collaborator – this position may with multiple departments and functions throughout PayPal.
  • Ability to think creatively and generate recommendations for tactical problem solving.

  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude

    Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in communications and/or marketing, and at least 1 year in managing an internal PR team and/or an agency team
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills
  • Incredible attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related field, required
