The Seller Risk management group is looking for a highly talented and self-motivated individual to join our team. The candidate would be a part of the PayPal Risk team located in Chandler, AZ.

The individual will manage a team of credit analysts and underwriters who are responsible for our NA Commercial portfolio. This person should be skilled in early identification and evaluation of deteriorating financial situations in order to minimize losses; Support overall risk goals through detailed analysis that results in policies, test-and-learn pilot programs and broad strategies to deliver efficiency, loss reduction and better customer experience; manage seller/merchant risk monitoring (MRM) strategies to optimize effectiveness of monitoring including PayPal and seller gross loss as well as customer experience; manage the overall strategy and foresee development of various business initiatives & programs; develop and manage reporting and value assessment for work; research and develop new risk tools and platforms to support overall organizational goals.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Lead and manage the Underwriting team by encouraging sound financial analyses and decision making
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, implementing Underwriting best practices to ensure organization is competitive in the marketplace
  • Actively coach and manage direct reports, providing regular feedback and developing employees for wider roles and responsibilities to foster professional growth and development
  • Serve as the primary resource for developing and implementing best practices for underwriting and monitoring merchants, assessing/managing risk and mitigating merchant risk for all payment solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop tools and processes to enhance efficiency of vetting and monitoring; assist in new product development and related risk endeavors.
  • Analyze complex financial statements and waterfall of payments
  • Evaluate risk ratings to proactively protect PayPal in deteriorating credits
  • Partner with cross functional teams of operational analysts, analytical  and product development resources to identify and promote new solutions and products that will improve the overall effectiveness of merchant risk monitoring and risk programs
  • Formulate, construct, conduct and analyze controlled experiments and derive valid conclusions from various test and learn pilots pertaining to seller risk that can be applied and scaled to risk operations
  • Work with operational analysts to build stories on emerging loss trends and opportunities for solution prototype development
  • Periodic analysis of new credit losses and present lessons and loss MOs with actionable insights
  • Prepare and present the new trends and opportunities to senior leadership and extended teams
  • Perform other related assignments/projects as requested by management

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in risk management, credit underwriting and/or portfolio management - capacity for financial services, payment services, or merchant account acquiring companies
  • Aptitude for data-driven decision making with a history of driving process improvement and efficiency using prospect and customer data.
  • Excel in a dynamic and fast-paced environment; manage changes, set and follow priorities and execute on vision and strategy.
  • Experience in developing and implementing risk management/underwriting and risk strategies processes and procedures and training teams in the execution of those strategies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
