The Global Commercial Seller Risk Team is responsible globally for the end to end management of seller risk for large sellers. These sellers process > $500,000 in payments per year with PayPal and comprise ~ 60% of our global processing volume. Understanding and closely managing the credit (insolvency) risks associated with these sellers is critical to our management of the portfolio. The credit risk arises as PayPal offers a type of guarantee to buyers for undelivered goods and services and if the seller becomes insolvent, PayPal bears the financial liability.

The Commercial Seller Risk Team is looking for a highly talented and self-motivated individual to join our team. The candidate would be a part of the PayPal Seller Risk Monitoring team located Dublin, Ireland.

The Commercial Monitoring Analyst will be responsible for monitoring merchant account activity to identify financial exposure and bank network/association violations.

The ideal candidate must have strong business acumen and strong financial assessment skills and must have exemplary written and oral communication and collaboration skills.

The ability to exercise sound judgment and be resourceful is imperative to success as a Commercial Monitoring Analyst.  The ideal candidate will bring a strong array of skills including project management, risk management, credit and sometimes fraud analysis and communications expertise.

Core Duties

  • Perform Credit write-up’s for management review in line with specific thresholds
  • Review and assess financial statements and other financial documents (e.g. Tax Returns, bank statements)
  • Management of specific large merchants and high risk segments
  • Review risk cases through a daily feed to ensure SLA achievement
  • Place merchant funds on hold to secure & maintain credit risk exposure
  • Review and manage daily merchant risk triggers for action
  • Contact customers (businesses) and issuing banks to understand businesses and validate transactions as necessary
  • Request documents from merchants to calculate and validate exposure
  • Directly interact and negotiate with merchants to build additional reserves or issue credits to offset PayPal financial liabilities (through claims and chargebacks)
  • Working specific queues and pending accounts for follow-up until risk exposure on accounts are mitigated

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • 1+ years experience in one or more of the following areas: Financial Services, Fraud Investigation, Credit Risk, Transaction Processing or Chargeback Processing or equivalent relevant education
  • Proven customer communication experience (E-mail & Phone)
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and Word).

Educational requirements

  • Degree in Economics, Statistics, Finance, Mathematics, Operations Research or equivalent work experience required.  Bachelors or higher level preferred.

Desirable Criteria

  • Fluency in a 2nd European language e.g. German, French, Italian, Spanish or Dutch are welcomed although not essential
