2018 will be a breakthrough year for the PayPal China business with the launch strategic partnerships and new capabilities that will see acceleration the importance and growth of China in the global PayPal network. We are seeking a talented, inspirational and commercial Marketing Leader to drive the next stage of customer, brand and commercial growth for the PayPal China Business. This role has a dual reporting line to VP Marketing, APAC (hard) and VP, China( dotted). The role will be part of the Marketing Leadership and China Leadership team. He /she will be responsible for overall marketing strategy and deliverables to accelerate growth in China Market including taking on a leadership role with strategic partners.

Role Purpose

To lead the China Marketing Team to deliver customer, brand and commercial growth for PayPal in the China market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of the China Marketing Strategic Plan for the consumer and merchant business units to align investment and allocation of resources with the best opportunities for growth
  • Responsible for growth of marketing led programs across all distribution channels including owned, earned, paid channels as well as via 3rd party strategic partnerships.
  • Responsible for overall leadership and execution of marketing programs for China
  • Partner with Strategy team and business unit to launch and deliver strategic partnerships with leading China companies
  • Partner with the Regional CRM Team to deliver localized Lifecycle Marketing Initiatives to engage, grow and retain customers
  • Lead the development of Customer Acquisition strategies across owned, earned and paid channels
  • Manage a roster of Agencies to deliver outstanding brand work for the China Market that delights, engages and wins the hearts and minds of our customers while delivering on commercial targets
  • Support the Merchant Services team to deliver on sales targets through Trade Marketing, Merchant Partnerships and Thought Leadership to inspire and engage prospective customers
  • Drive a customer led, insights focus with the marketing team to intelligently use data and research to drive insight led decision making
  • Lead the development of localized Product Marketing Strategies in partnership with Global Product Marketing and provide a compelling story around the opportunities and needs of Chinese customers to influence the global product development roadmap
  • Effectively build codependent partnerships with the regional marketing team and play a thought leadership role in driving marketing best practice with the regional and global marketing communities
  • Drive a leadership role on the China Executive Team in setting the strategic direction and priorities of the China business while providing strong figurehead leadership qualities across the broader business
  • Review and interpret local, national and global competitor activities and behavior for trends and potential ideas/application to PayPal and future marketing programs
  • Delivers organizational objectives through driving co-operation and success from people across different areas of the organization.
  • Drives connectivity, leverages senior relationships across PayPal for the benefit of China’s objectives
  • Partner with Strategy and Business development teams to drive new opportunities for the business.
  • Lead and manage a team of 6 marketers  
  • Management of a Marketing Budget of ~$10M Opex

Key Skills and Experience

  • Business / Commerce/Marketing Degree Qualified
  • 15-20 years Marketing Director experience in blue chip companies working on high profile brands
  • Strong marketer with international experience;  partnership and B2B experience would be a valuable asset
  • Inspiring leader and outstanding people manager
  • Exceptional leader with strong track record of fostering high-performance teams.
  • Highly strategic and thought leader in the area of building a customer champion brand
  • High level of influencing /diplomacy skills to balance competing ( internal and external) interests and manage multiple stakeholders with complex objectives
  • Strong digital, mobile and social credentials
  • Deep CRM and Lifecycle Management experience
  • High change agility
  • Able to lead but also to roll up sleeves and get into the detail and support the team in executing
  • Outstanding verbal and written communicator
  • Demonstrated experience in influencing and driving outcomes in complex matrix environment
  • Ability to build strong agency and partnership relationships
  • Marketing leader who can influence other departments and regions where there are mutual dependencies; experience in a global matrix structure a plus
