The Business Systems Analyst position is within the First Line of Defense Center of Excellence (FLOD COE) and will be responsible for managing and supporting cross-functional reporting needs, conducting root cause analysis and providing technical consults. The person we are seeking must be self-motivated, analytical, with proven experience influencing and effectively communicating across the organization. He or she should have proven data analysis skills along with the ability to build relationships/partnerships and work cross-functionally to drive time sensitive deliverables, issues tracking and reporting to completion.


  • Ability to understand business problem and provide feasible solution meeting PayPal domain & technology requirements. Engage with business users on proof of concept efforts.
  • Work with business partners and subject matter experts to fulfill data needs (KPIs and KRIs along with other reporting metrics) that will support business operations and the FLOD COE reporting efforts. Build expertise on data relevant to subject area.
  • Create and document solution(s) of low to medium complexity to meet end user requirements, including documentation of systems specifications. Conduct quality assurance testing and user acceptance testing (UAT) as needed.
  • Partner with other FLOD COE teams to offer insights and opportunities to adjust priorities, processes, and documentation.
  • Support special projects and initiatives: special projects vary from strategic initiatives to day to day operations. Support needs will vary by project and will require strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively
  • Comfortable working in an agile environment and with cross-functional teams, should have appetite to learn and be flexible to pick up new technology.

Core Duties:

  • Work with extremely talented peers in a fun environment building performance efficient, highly scalable, configurable solutions spanning multiple technologies and platforms – Hadoop, HBase, Teradata, Oracle, Terracotta Server Array (in-memory data management), SAS, Tableau, Microstrategy, Informtica, Golden gate, Kafka etc.
  • Create SQL queries to troubleshoot, develop metrics and create ad-hoc reporting as needed; data systems understanding is expected, specifically Teradata, Tableau, and MSSQL
  • Identify potential solutions, shortlist and compare them. Finalize the solution by collaboration with business.
  • Analyze and understand core business processes and data flows to provide solution offerings that are scalable, repeatable and effective
  • Assist internal customers with acceptance testing and adoption
  • Ensure issues are identified, tracked, reported and resolved in a timely manner
  • Participate in special projects as needed and perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • 1-2+ years of reporting and analytics experience
  • Experience in financial services industry preferred
  • BS/BA Degree or educational equivalent
  • Knowledge of SQL and one or more of these DB’s - Oracle, MySQL, Teradata is a plus.
  • Experience with Tableau or other visualization tools is a plus.
  • Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, conscientious, thorough and accurate
  • Strong interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and client service oriented attitude and mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, oral, presentation skills)
  • Proven ability to function well independently as well as in a team
  • Ability to prioritize deliverables and projects to meet timelines efficiently, to adapt to changes in priorities quickly and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously to drive projects to completion and deliver quality materials under tight deadlines
