The Business Operations Manager will drive and improve the engagement and communications and operating plan and execution for our COO and the Customer Experience & Technology organization. The ideal candidate will have experience in, aptitude and passion for internal communications and a deep desire to inspire and advocate for employees. This individual must be comfortable working with all levels of the organization and driven to create, maintain and communicate a compelling company narrative. The dynamic and evolving Customer Experience & Technology organization encompasses all product development functions at PayPal, infrastructure and M&A portfolio companies including Venmo, Braintree, Xoom, Hyperwallet, Simility and Jetlore.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Engagement / internal comms planning & development: Create thoughtful and robust internal employee engagement strategy and plan inclusive of audience segmentation, persona development, channel plan, key messaging pillars and calendar, in partnership with central Public Relations and Communications teams. Develop outcome goals for engagement and measure progress against them.
  • Strategic thinking and research: Bring outside-in thinking to the organization, highlighting best practices from other companies that should be considered and evaluated when developing our employee engagement strategy. Act as a disruptor questioning the status-quo.
  • Communications for the COO and Leadership Team: Create/shape presentations for Executive Leadership and public appearances, primarily for internal audiences.  Liaise with the corp comms team as needed to support external appearances.
  • Comms artifact development: Identify, write, and share compelling company stories.
  • Connector and counsel: Provide counsel and support to our business partners, serving as the connective tissue to pull together disparate engagement efforts and bring them forward at a broader scale.
  • Ensure effective organizational communication: keep the organization well-informed through various established channels of communications; drive organizational awareness of culture, policy, organizational updates, decisions, etc.; ensure high employee engagement through following implemented policies and procedures.
  • Lifecycle engagement: Partnering with Talent Development/Training Teams across the enterprise, and HR Business Partners as appropriate to ensure the right programs are in place to attract, acquire, grow and retain talent; build awareness of those programs.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • History in communications, business & strategy development preferred.
  • At least 5 years of internal communications experience
  • Proven ability to translate complex strategy into easily-understood, inspiring content across multiple voices and formats
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills. Graphic design skills a big plus
  • Excellent relationship building and influencing skills, ability to earn trust and support at all levels of the organization including with senior executives
  • Excellent client service skills, with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment
  • Solid thought leadership and good judgment
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver programs that boost employee engagement
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, global, fluid, matrix environment with demonstrated flexibility and is results-focused.  Is comfortable leading from both the front and the rear, as situations dictate.
  • Strong project management skills
  • BA or BS Required, MBA Preferred
