PayPal seeks a Business Development Manager who will be part of our Global Business Development organization. This person will participate in the end-to-end execution of large, global and complex partnerships across our ecosystem. The role will report to the Senior Director, Vertical Business Development. The Business Development Manager will guide project execution hand-in-hand with cross-functional internal partners: operations, product, sales, marketing, compliance, legal, risk, support and more. They will develop effective positive influencer relationships, and successfully launch complex new projects and partnerships in markets globally. This role will also work face-to-face with outside partners, ensuring that the complex partnerships we craft are mutually beneficial and long-lasting. After launch, they will manage the transition of those successful partnerships into permanent “homes” within the appropriate core operating units of PayPal. This role offers the opportunity to imagine and execute large projects in a direct hands-on way, under the direction of a Senior Director. It also offers opportunities to lead smaller projects, as the principal participant on the cross-functional work team.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be part of the external-facing sales effort to identify, structure, negotiate and win partnerships with targeted new partners.
  • Be the primary or supporting relationship leader with the partner, throughout the lifecycle of the project.
  • Collaborate broadly across PayPal - with internal product, compliance, operations and other teams - to combine existing processes and capabilities with new concepts, crafting the specific solution needed to realize the identified opportunity.
  • Help to identify and recruit essential cross-functional team participants critical to the success of a project.  Coordinate efforts by those stakeholders and maintain productive relationships with them throughout the life of the project.
  • Work closely with the cross-functional deal team to develop operational plans for each partnership, and then manage the execution of those plans end-to-end.  Act as the ‘connective tissue’ that links all aspects of the deal execution together.
  • Ensure on-time, in-full delivery of deal terms as agreed with external partners.  Establish and monitor performance metrics as needed to ensure both PayPal and partner commitments are met.
  • Participate in multiple projects simultaneously across Global Business Development’s entire portfolio, with the agility to act as a leader, project coordinator, or supporting member when required.
  • Strengthen the Global Business Development team and culture in other ways, as new needs are identified or requested.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work across the organization and interact/influence/negotiate effectively at all levels of management and peers
  • Experience in Program Management, specifically coordinating the implementation of technical and business solutions
  • Facilitation skills; able to run large meetings with participants across a variety of levels.  Experienced and effective at driving to decision and reinforcing accountability
  • Strong written AND verbal communication skills
  • Strong “executive presence, with excellent judgment, mature personality, and proven success in working with senior executives (internally and externally)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years experience in enterprise sales, business development, program management and/or startup business growth, with a proven track record of deal/project completion.
  • Experience in financial services, payments and internet/technology businesses is required – including direct work with merchants and partners.
  • Experience as a manager or team leader is preferred: helping to define the direction and strategy for a business or initiative. 
  • PayPal familiarity/experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to travel (10-40%)
  • BS/BA degree required
  • MBA or other advanced degree preferred
