We are looking for a Brand Strategist who shares our ambition for the PayPal brand, has a thriving passion for defining verbal identities, excels at simplifying complex problems and has a knack for persuading audiences through powerful storytelling and insight-based rationale.

Your role

You will lead all the strategic brand activity that supports verbal identity at PayPal. This means you’ll play a key role in defining what customers think about PayPal from the very first time they interact with us. This role has the power to solidify PayPal across the globe as the customer champion brand in the minds of all our audiences—consumers, merchants and employees. Bonus points if you thrive in a position where the sky’s the limit, but the path is unchartered.

You will also be a custodian for the integrity and quality of usage of the PayPal brand across our house of brands.  You will help us protect our branded intellectual property by acting as a consultant to the regional and functional areas that use our branded properties in how to best implement our brand identity in a variety of applications including product experiences, co-marketing, sponsorship, creative, employee communications and environmental situations.


Your responsibilities

1.      Lead the thinking, concepting and execution on PayPal's verbal identity across all PayPal properties—products, features, solutions, initiatives, etc.


2.     Nurture, protect and govern all PayPal's brand assets, at a global and local level — ensuring they are always leveraged consistently, according to our standards and best positioned to increase our brand.


3.     Be the key partner for consulting and collaborating on verbal identities across the business – including all Marketing Teams, People & Culture team, the Product Organization, Global Support functions like Legal, Risk, Compliance, Communications.


4.     Engage and educate stakeholders across the organization on the importance of naming and partner with product and design teams to uncover opportunities to take our standards to the next level.


5.     Partner with the world’s leading brand thinkers to help us innovate and drive innovation in how we think about verbal identities.


You’ll need to…

•       Be a customer champion at heart with solid experience in the consumer tech category and/or financial services category (but not just financial services). Can defend the customers wishes and hopes within logical, engineering-based environments and will always fight for the standards that our brand deserves.


•       Have proven experience in verbal identity development for brand and product.


•       An impactful, inspiring story teller. Comfortable in any arena evangelizing our brand and confident addressing senior stakeholders.


•       Be team player across functions and borders. Collaborative, consultative, collegiate, someone who builds answers and outcomes with their stakeholders and customers, globally.


•       Be self-driven and resourceful. Generally very focused on getting to “yes".


•       Have impeccable attention to detail. Drive very high quality standards and establish robust principles to ensure brand integrity.


•       Be disciplined and empathetic people person. Someone that people see as a trusted adviser, a project partner, a strong voice for the customer in global forums and within the regions.


•       A welcome addition to a team of crazy marketers who take their work very seriously, but themselves…not so much.


…and also have…

•       Minimum of a BA/BS degree in Communications or equivalent, Masters in marketing a plus.

•       An education in the craft of brand strategy and development, marketing communications and services, especially around technology, social, digital and mobile practices — with a fervent passion for verbal expression.

•       5+ years experience in brand strategy and naming, better yet if in a fast moving, disruptive, rapid growth brand environment — preferably with a mix of agency and client side.

•       Excellent public speaking and presenting skills.

•       English plus one additional language ideal.
