The SSAM for the Chicago area will work for the PayPal Global Safety and Security team and be responsible for the PayPal site under the leadership of the Director of Security Operations - Americas. The SSAM is required to have on-site presence and is the primary safety and security representative for the business leadership at this location. Additionally, this role will dual report to investigative functions in this location and take direction from the Sr. Director of Global Investigations and/or the Senior Manager for Investigations - Americas. Primary responsibilities are listed below in the description. However, the Chicago SSAM may be called upon for special projects outside of their geography. Position Responsibilites Global Safety and Security (GSS) primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:  Manages all safety and security activities and provides leadership direction to onsite management, employees, and vendor workforce.  Assists with the design and management of the corporate physical security program for the site.  Manages the development and implementation of access and perimeter control procedures, conveying and verifying security requirements.  Works to develop and implement corrective actions to upgrade the physical security of the site.  Manages the development and enhancements of safety and security inspection procedures to prevent safety and security hazards, and ensures proper procedures are followed.  Monitors performance and assignments of uniformed security personnel and makes routine inspections to ensure proper equipment, training, and fulfillment of duties are in compliance with company policies.  Oversees service technicians responsible for electronic and physical security systems, evaluates performance and procedures to minimize risks.  Monitors and directs emergency response plans and related activities as required.  Coordinates physical security administrative and operational matters with management, local law enforcement, first responders, and client/customers to ensure continuity of operations.

Global Investigations (GI) primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Conduct comprehensive, high quality end-to-end complex investigations to identify financial crime patterns, trending and typologies impacting PayPal and the global user community. Investigations may involve employee misconduct, to include potential violation of PayPal’s policies and procedures, ethical misconduct, and/or criminal activity. 
  • Drive investigations to a timely conclusion following the completion of a comprehensive analysis of information across multiple platforms and jurisdictions to timely and appropriately detect potentially suspicious activity and fulfill time-sensitive regulatory filing obligations; prepare drafts of Suspicious Activity Reports/STRs to ensure they are factually accurate and materially sound prior to submitting them for approval for filing.
  • Identify broader policy and product issues where applicable, in the scope of critically analyzing investigative leads and root cause analysis.
  • Investigators should stay current with internal policy changes and industry practices and should seek opportunities to participate in enhancing current policies and controls in support of the mission and purpose of the Global Investigations team.


Qualification Guidelines

  • Bachelor’s degree in the area of study relevant to this position and 12-15 years progressive experience in complex investigations, military police, federal law enforcement, or with public or private sector organizations.
  • Solid writing skills with ability to both write persuasively and convey complex matters in clear and simple written form.
  • Expert oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex information accurately, clearly and quickly to all levels
  • Provide suggestions and demonstrate problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent project management, organizational, presentation and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure and make sound decisions; Display a high level of professional judgment, commitment, integrity, and teamwork.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to positively influence teams through a climate of change.
  • Results oriented with the ability to identify the long-term effects of decisions /solutions on customers and the business.
  • Proficient in the use of a personal computer and its applications, including Windows and Windows based applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).
