The Global Record to Report (R2R) team is part of the core cross-functional team that supports PayPal’s M&A activity led by the Corporate Development team. The Global R2R team has an exciting opportunity to help develop and build a scalable M&A integration process. This role is a high visibility role that requires an understanding of US GAAP principles and accounting operations to drive post-acquisition GL integration efforts for our global R2R functions.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Partner with the local/target team and global R2R general ledger (GL) functions to manage and prepare the initial GL accounting for strategic and other non-recurring transactions (e.g. acquisition integration, divestiture support, special projects, etc.).
  • Act as a representative and ambassador for PayPal’s global R2R GL functions in discussions with potential acquires local/target accounting team for GL accounting operation matters
  • Understand the local/target’s financial control environment, financial statements and business operations of the acquired entities to drive post-acquisition integration. Set forth and execute a roadmap to integrate financial systems with the goal of transitioning ongoing oversight of the fully-integrated acquired entities to our global R2R functions and regional controllers. Activities include the following:
    • Work with teams across PayPal to develop detail GL accounting operations integration plans and integration budgets.
    • Communicate with teams across PayPal and local/target team to socialize, validate, and refine integration plans
    • Drive the end-to-end efforts to execute on a GL integration plan which is repeatable and scalable by working with and through functional teams to prioritize and deliver outcomes
    • Identify and resolve major cross-functional issues and risks where possible. Predict problems and solve them before they impact teams.
    • Provide regular updates to the leadership team on progress, key decisions, and major risks/issues that need to be resolved
  • Assists the global R2R GL functions in identifying and prioritizing continuous process improvement across the finance function and use cases for finance process automation.
  • Facilitate retrospectives to extract lessons learned from various functions and workstreams at critical junctures of the GL integration phases. Maintain and update the M&A post acquisition integration playbook based on best practices and lessons learned. Develop KPI’s to measure outcomes of post-integration activities.  

An ideal candidate for this role would possess the following skills/experience:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to distill and communicate complex accounting concepts to others within the organization up to and including the senior executive level.
  • Proficiency with US GAAP accounting application (specific experience with Financial Reporting, Foreign Currencies, Goodwill/Intangibles, Investments, ERP systems etc. is a plus)
  • Proficiency with General Ledger (GL) accounting close requirements, core financial processes (order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, record-to-report, etc.) and potential impacts associated with merger integration activities.
  • Organization skills and the ability to manage multiple transactions simultaneously
  • Detail oriented, customer-focused, and have a reputation for getting things done. Moreover, you love operating in a dynamic and demanding environment, think critically, act quickly, and partner naturally. Good judgment and team building skills are coveted. 
  • At least 5 years of accounting operations experience.
  • Big 4 experience a plus
  • CPA preferred
  • Comfortable working with diverse teams in multiple locations.
  • Ability to influence where you do not have direct authority through strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
