The PayPal Accountant is an individual contributor responsible for performing operational accounting tasks and functions required to ensure all assigned general ledger account balances are accurately reflected in the financial statements.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Timely and effective reconciliation of all assigned General Ledger accounts, including timely and accurate clearing of reconciling items in accordance with Company Policy and SOX compliance requirements.  Ensure accurate posting of general ledger entries in SAP, customer accounts.
  • Research, track and timely resolve outstanding reconciling items and related issues.  Able to apply research techniques to accurately identify root cause; effectively communicate with internal resources and/or processors to escalate and resolve these differences.  Adhere to reconciliation escalation and write-off policy.
  • Work in a global, cross functional role which may include Finance/Accounting, Treasury, Global Financial Products, Global Core Payments, Operations and Business Development teams. Assist with product launches and market expansions related to accounting processes.
  • Work with a high degree of initiative to identify and drive process improvement opportunities in the areas of reporting, reconciliation and analysis.
  • Maintain, monitor and report out, as agreed upon, individual metrics designed to track effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Ensure desktop procedures related to all processes are maintained and current.
  • Assist with, or be responsible for, other duties and ad hoc projects as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • 3-5 years relevant work experience in accounting operations required.  Experience in high volume transaction environment and complex general ledger reconciliations required.  Financial institution and payments industry experience a plus.
  • Ability to understand and assess how transactions impact account balances and the risk reconciling items represent to the overall financial statements of the organization.
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP) and Microsoft Office products to include extensive abilities within Excel.  Ability to learn and adapt to new software technologies.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills with the ability to manage a variety of primary duties while actively contributing to new projects.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and evaluative skills.
  • Well developed sense of urgency and follow through.
  • Energy and desire to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment; ability to handle multiple projects under pressure and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively and professionally with global cross-functional teams within all levels of the organization.
  • This position requires additional work hours during peak activity and requires liaison with remote or global teams outside local business hours.
  • This position may require travel to San Jose less than 10% of the time.
