The Account Manager (AM) position is a critical component of the PayPal Merchant Service’s Large Enterprise (LE) Team. The LE AM serves as a lead high-level contact/consultant for strategically important clients in North America. This particular position is responsible for managing the operational aspects of the PayPal relationship. During the integration phase, the AM works in tandem with our Customer and Large Enterprise Integration Teams as a subject matter expert (SME) on PayPal operational processes, provides training on procedures and policies. Post–sale, the incumbent serves as the lead point of contact for all operational aspects of the merchant processing relationship during the contract life, ensuring a smooth transition from activation through the activity phase. The position is the focal point for information and communication with the client on critical operational issues and works closely with the customer's assigned Strategic Growth Manager (SGM) to provide an outstanding merchant experience with PayPal. The incumbent facilitates key elements of the Merchant Services'' infrastructure, including development of critical employee and customer documentation, procedures, processes and training materials. The Account Manager will work with other team members and colleagues outside the unit to provide training and education on an as-needed basis.

This role will require tight coordination with a wide range of PayPal teams, including: Large Enterprise Sales and Integrations, Strategic Growth Managers, Technical Account Management, Marketing, Product/Business Development and PayPal Operations Departments.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the focal point for all information and communication on critical operational issues and act as the service contact for all operational areas (technical, workflow, customer support, risk, billing, etc. issues)
  • Conduct account reviews, process analysis and develop business plans.

  • Involvement in contract negotiations and management process.

  • Identify and lead projects for the organization.

  • Involvement in the Integration process

  • Manage escalation on behalf of merchant account portfolio.

  • Represent the voice of the customer to internal organizations.

  • Identify and mitigate risk on behalf of the company.

  • Help accounts meet their company revenue and profitability goals through strong relationship building, exceptional account servicing, product consultation, retention plans, and cross sell programs

  • Monitor merchant account activity and review the value of services provided to recommend efficiencies

  • Build and enhance key account relationships through effective communication.

  • Serve as the product consultant and subject matter expert on PayPal operations processes, procedures, and policies during the term of the relationship

  • Train and educate merchants on PayPal’s products and features


1. Education – BS/BA degree or equivalent work experience.

2. Work experience:

  • 3 years PayPal Merchant Services experience OR
  • 5+ years managing a large merchant accounts at a Financial Institution

3. Past experience working in either the payment processing, acquiring/issuing or financial services/credit industries is preferred.

4. An understanding of basic business principals, cash flow, and other core business principals is preferred.

5. Experience in an environment that requires you to identify key problems and independently determine appropriate solutions.

6. Experience in an environment where cross-functional collaboration is essential to accomplishing goals and objectives.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills – past experience in an environment that required heavy client contact, presentation, documentation and follow up.

2. Knowledge of PayPal suite merchant products.

3. Demonstrate critical thinking skills – experience managing complex customer issues from inception through resolution.

4. Well-developed sense of urgency and follow through.

5. A high level of personal accountability and responsibility.

6. Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with co-workers, internal business partners and merchants
