As a teammate within Venmo Risk, you will be required to work through a number of pre-determined fraud queues and/or offline investigations to determine if recent account activity is of a fraudulent nature (based on fraud indicators). You will complete your investigation using multiple resources including reviewing Venmo/PayPal activity, phone matches, IP Search, and various websites, etc. You are responsible for reviewing documentation, analyzing data, and determining in a timely manner whether to verify the authenticity of transactions and/or activities. In tandem, an experienced teammate will escalate fraud trends, provide feedback on various topics, on occasion join in on ad hoc meetings and collaborate with Venmo working partners. A skilled teammate within Venmo Risk is a proactive, organized, efficient, and driven leader that exhibits strong analytical skills, adapts well to change, and thrives in a collaborative team environment.

Core Duties:

  • Based on assigned queues, review Venmo/PayPal accounts and determine the legitimacy of the account and account holder, the associated risk (using fraud indicators), and make sure all appropriate restriction and/or dismissal decisions are made on each account reviewed. (70%)
  • Work various reports designed to capture loss & review for fraud activity (20%)
  • Continually monitor cases and reports to identify trends and notify management of information gleaned from that activity (10%)
  • Provide feedback to Leaders & Sr. Specialists on learnings and findings to help improve processes, policy alignments & fraud lead quality
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and assistance to peer employees by answering questions, providing feedback on customer issues, and supporting all areas of Venmo Risk; as needed

Prerequisite Knowledge & Proficiencies:

  • Strong verbal & written communication skills utilizing active listening and clear speaking to internal and external customers
  • Ability to make discretionary decisions based on research.
  • Ability to function in a variety of tasks with a sense of urgency and follow-through.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new software technologies.
  • Strong working knowledge of external systems, PC & Apple based internet and software applications (Internet, Google Docs, Google Forms, Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word, and Excel).
  • Basic knowledge of internal systems & software (Venmo Underground, ZenDesk, Wiki, Slack)

Experience:

  • 5+ years relevant work experience required
  • 2 yr. experience in one or more of the following areas: Customer Support and Financial Services, Fraud Investigation, and Transaction processing.
  • 12 months of combined experience in Risk Operations

Educational Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

Shift: Sun-Wed or Wed-Sat; based on availability
