The Venmo Infrastructure team supports Venmo’s internal and customer-facing production operations. We are the foundation of what runs Venmo. As a manager of technical Individual contributors in infrastructure, you will work directly with engineering leadership to prioritize efforts to align services operations with business goals. You will be a hands-on leader that knows how to coach, delegate to, encourage and hire technical staff. You will mentor other Infrastructure individual contributors and product owners how to improve services availability, reliability and scalability by driving best practices. You will set clear expectations and goals based on OKRs and KPIs, manages execution, stays within budget, and proactively solve issues.

What You’ll Do 

  • Take a leadership role in defining and articulating overarching business objectives and help the SRE domain teams translate those into actionable plans. 

  • Define technology and business strategies that deliver iterative enhancements to the tools and processes that improve availability, observability and scalability. 

  • Recognize, validate and evangelize emerging technologies and architectures that align with business objectives. 

  • Define SLOs for the products and services you provide to engineering. 

  • Define priorities, scope and implementation plans for your teams. 

  • Develop processes, tools and automation manage infrastructure and applications at scale. 

  • Guide implementations to ensure they meet functional and design specifications. 

  • Coach/mentor technical leads/engineers on design principles and SRE best practices. 

 

   About You: 

  • Bachelors and/or Masters in computer science or related field of study 

  • 5+ years managing and leading Individual Contributors through career development, and performance management.  

  • Take a leadership role in defining, road-mapping and articulating overarching business objectives and help the Infrastructure domain teams translate those into actionable plans. 

  • Define priorities, scope and implementation plans for your teams. 

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to understand and explain technical issues to a non-technical audience 

  • 10+ years' experience in software development or a related field 

  • 10+ years' experience operating distributed applications 24x7x365 

  • Coach/mentor technical leads/engineers on design principles and Infrastructure and SRE best practices. 

  • Hands-on experience with IaaS and PaaS solutions from AWS (or similar cloud provider):

  • Hands-on experience with: Web servers and proxies: Envoy, NGINX, Containers & container orchestration:EKS, KOPs, Docker, Kubernetes, Contour, etc.

  • Networking and routing (VPC, Direct Connect, VPN) 

  • Infrastructure as code (AWS CLI, AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible, Puppet) 

  • Hands-on programming and scripting (Lambda, API GW, Python, Java, Bash) 

  • Lead technical individual contributors in developing technology that deliver iterative enhancements to the tools and processes that improve availability, observability and scalability in cloud based networking teams.  

  • Recognize, validate and evangelize emerging technologies and architectures that align with business objectives. 

  • Develop processes, tools and automation manage infrastructure and applications at scale. 

  • Guide implementations to ensure they meet functional and design specifications. 

  • Demonstrable ability to learn new technologies.
