Join PayPal’s Developer Platforms and Experience UX team. Our team’s passion: create a seamless, holistic and exceptional customer experience for PayPal’s internal developer community. We are a small but mighty design team that is successfully scaling design across a large organization, transforming it from an engineering-driven org to a customer-focused one. You will be guiding product teams in their efforts to design and build products that will be consumed as part of PayPal’s unified developer tools platform.

The ideal candidate is a generalist designer with both interaction and user research skills, and an aptitude for design systems and thinking holistically. Visual design skills are a plus. They will thrive in a fast-paced work environment that requires strong problem-solving skills and independent self-direction, coupled with an aptitude for team collaboration and open communication. Most importantly, the ideal candidate will not only have a strong understanding of how to make good design decisions, they will also be a good communicator and have the ability to teach product teams to make good user-centric design decisions on their own.


This individual should have a passion for empathizing with the needs and behaviors of people, the business, and how to solve for them through design.


Responsibilities 

  • This is an individual contributor role that is part of the UX team within the Developer Platform and Experience organization.
  • Partner with and mentor product development teams in the design, execution, and delivery of products that are useful for and usable by the intended user.  
  • Understand the fundamentals of what makes a design good or not and articulate it to product teams that have little to no experience with UX.
  • Help product teams learn about and conduct user research. 
  • Leverage and foster the use of our design principals and methodology.
  • Collaborate with the UX team to expand and extend our design patterns, prototyping library and UI components.


Requirements 

  • Two to four years’ experience in the field of user experience design and user research 
  • Open-mindedness and a spirit of innovation regarding new ways of doing UX design
  • Sound understanding of UX methodology and lifecycle 
  • A basic understanding of “devops” and the software development lifecycle
  • Customer-focused, with understanding of design research methods to uncover customer insights 
  • Strong attention to detail and craft
  • Convincing written and verbal communication skills
  • Effectively operates within an iterative design team, managing UX responsibilities against defined milestones and plan 
  • General awareness of technology mediums (React, Javascript, HTML/CSS, platform UIs, etc.) including differences between them
  • Experience with UXPin, or similar prototyping tools, is strongly desired but not required


Education 


Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the study of design including at least one of the following; Product Design, Information Architecture, Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Visual Design, or equivalent project/portfolio experience.
