As a member of the Commercial Underwriting team, you will be responsible for conducting financial assessments and ongoing monitoring of merchants in the Commercial Seller segment. This is a full credit underwriting review that includes analysing business and personal financials , bank statements to assess credit worthiness, processing complex data to draw meaningful conclusions and make holistic business recommendations.


  • Conduct full credit underwriting including assessment of merchant risk including PayPal Acceptable Use, Regulatory Compliance (Federal and State, Local Region) , Credit Card Compliance, Legal, Fraud and Credit Risks.
  • Interpret and analyse credit bureau reports, personal and business financial statements, merchant processing statements, business history, background investigations, and bank and trade references to assess credit worthiness
  • Some experience preparing financial assessment (growth trends, efficiency ratios, cash flow generation, burn rate, debt levels, overall liquidity), interpreting financial performance, competition comparison, and assessing credit exposure.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with cross-functional stakeholders on risk insights and recommendations, provide feedback to help develop underwriting guidance & criteria, and support the quality assurance program with the local team

  • Effectively communicate the outcomes, build relationships, and add value between PayPal and the merchant
  • Clear call to action for merchant
  • Invest time and effort in your decisions
  • Ownership of the impact of your decision and the overall merchant experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Strong Financial Analysis skills are a necessity of this role (P&L, Balance Sheet and Cashflow Analysis)
  • 2+ year experience in one or more of the following areas: Customer Support, Financial Services, Fraud Investigation, Credit Risk, Transaction Processing, or Chargeback Processing
  • Proven customer communication experience (E-mail & Phone)
  • Fluent in English and German Language
