In 2018, Zettle became part of the PayPal family to go further in its mission to help Small Businesses succeed in a world of giants. By giving them the tools to get paid, sell smarter and grow, we are empowering Small Business Owners to reach their full potential. Together, we’re extraordinary. Together, we’re made for more. Join us in putting an end to ordinary and redefine financial freedom. The best is yet to come.

As we continue on our quest to democratise financial services, we are on the lookout for a senior web developer to take on the Tech Lead role of our Backoffice Platform team.

The Zettle Backoffice is the home of our merchant’s business. The place from which they run, manage, understand and grow that business. It is an integral part of their every day and a key strategic component of the Zettle offering.

Our mission is to build a platform and developer experience upon which Zettle can build a scalable and resilient back-office. The Team is also responsible for core product components such as the navigation, dashboard and settings as well as ensuring the overall product quality.

Tech Lead in the Backoffice Platform Team

As a Tech Lead in our Backoffice Platform Team, you will have the end-to-end ownership of the team’s Tech Stack. This means that you will work closely with everyone on the team as well as other Tech Leads and stakeholders to keep the technical direction aligned with the roadmap and overall agenda of the architectural vision for Zettle's Backoffice.

Besides the above, an important aspect of this role will consist in acting as a mentor and a partner for all team members and stakeholders to turn ideas into efficient solutions while also taking part in hands-on programming to stay close to the code and the systems.

A glimpse of what you would get here

At Zettle, we believe in using the best tools for the task and that's why we continuously review our toolkit, architecture and ways of working. In this spirit, our Team is currently migrating parts of its stack from a monolithic legacy solution built with Ruby to a micro-frontend architecture with React, to improve performance, scalability and user experience.

While doing this, the team is also involved in high-level architectural discussions regarding upcoming unification and integration between other PayPal systems and services.

Should you accept it, your mission is to:

  • Drive the architectural direction of our tech stack by working closely with your colleagues inside as well as outside the team;

  • Take an active part in system design and support and mentor other developers in discussions and decision making;

  • Design, implement and maintain platform features together with the team;

  • Ensure a high level of quality, usability and maintainability of the (reusable) components and code;

  • Help improving our infrastructure and build tools to ensure a great developer experience for all web developers within Zettle;

  • Experiment and learn about the latest tools, technology and processes.

The skills to succeed

  • Solid end-to-end experience of the web stack, from server to browser;

  • Expertise in modern frontend development tools such as JavaScript/TypeScript, React, HTML/CSS;

  • Expertise within build tools and infrastructure for frontend web development;

  • Good knowledge about backend development, API:s and cloud services such as AWS;

  • Great communication and collaboration skills combined with a solid experience working in a diverse and agile environment.

The traits to exceed

We believe that you are a great teammate known for your inner ability to take and solve technical challenges for a common purpose. Grounded and humble, you naturally share your knowledge, experience and opinions without ever losing sight of the importance for everyone to have a chance to contribute to the team's success. Lastly, you make it fun.

Earn extra points with...

  • Experience in working with technical architecture from a scalability and security perspective;

  • Experience of building SPAs and/or PWAs;

  • Knowledge of bundlers such as webpack and Rollup;

  • Knowledge of testing tools for frontend applications;

  • GraphQL experience;

  • AWS experience (e.g. S3, Lambda, CloudFront);

  • Some experience in backend development, e.g. Node or Java.

Bring your talent to our attention!

If you also believe in financial inclusion, let's take things further! We’d love to hear from you so go on, hit apply and/or let's talk!
