The role is for a Software Engineer with Android development experience, working on building futuristic and delightful mobile payment features and experiences for PayPal's diverse customer base in India and other Growth Markets. The role will involve working with business teams, product teams, architects and engineers located across our global offices.

PayPal India and Growth Markets Engineering Team :

The “PayPal India and Growth Markets Engineering Team” is responsible for developing and rolling out new products for PayPal’s customer base in India and other emerging markets across the world. Our charter is to double down and drive the next wave of growth for PayPal’s consumer and merchant bases globally, to propel new user acquisition, provide platform expansion through ubiquity, bring in new revenue through partnerships and to contribute actively to our organization’s mission of democratizing financial services.

The engineers in this team also have a unique opportunity of working closely with the local business teams, local customers, the customer support teams, product owners and other global product and engineering teams. The scope of problems to solve for our India and other Growth Markets is large, and this team will be in the center of all the action for growing and scaling PayPal’s payments platform. The focus is on agility, time to market and innovation.

PayPal’s India Business:

While PayPal has always offered its Indian customers ways to buy from overseas merchants and sell across the border, the domestic payments platform of PayPal was launched on in 2017. We have had organic growth since then and are one of the key payment partners for several large, medium and small sized businesses and casual sellers to sell within India and overseas. We also have a fast growing active consumer base that uses PayPal for purchases globally.

About the Role:

Software Engineer-2, Android Development, PayPal India & Growth Markets

A customer focused, hands-on Android Developer, responsible for designing, implementing and delivering state of the art payments solutions for Growth markets of PayPal. The ideal candidate is an individual with strong experience and awareness of the payments industry trends, with an knowledge on design principles and building apps that are intuitive and user-friendly. Business acumen, hands-on technology skills, positive work ethic and a collaborative mindset are key to the success of this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a customer centric mindset as part of day-day work.
  • Be a hands-on individual contributor, who can design solutions, code them, as well as review the deliverables of other team members.
  • Work closely with our product and design teams to customize the PayPal experiences for Android
  • Drive technical designs to consensus and approval as a leader within PayPal’s cross-functional technology team.
  • As a software engineer should put customer first as part of day-day work.
  • Ensure that the design and implementation adhere to defined specs and processes.
  • Collaboratively work with cross-functional teams across the globe.
  • Own end-to-end quality of deliverables during all phases of the software development lifecycle.
  • Understand the payments business and how technology decisions impact the business. Sense evolving business trends and translate them into needs into technology solves.

Technical Craftsmanship

  • Built high traffic Mobile experiences, and service-oriented Apps using Android Technologies
  • Experience in refactoring existing code base and in understanding existing implementations to decide to refactor or rewrite.
  • Focus on quality and ensure responsiveness of apps developed.
  • Experience mobile development frameworks, multi-threading , memory management and caching mechanisms.
  • Experience designing systems spanning multiple domains and functions.

Technical Hands-on Skills

  • Strong programming skills and expertise in Android App development.
  • Solid understanding of the Android Development life cycle & APIs
  • Solid programming skills in Java, knowledge on Kotlin is an advantage
  • Proficiency in developing libraries and SDKs
  • Knowledge of UI design for different resolutions
  • Knowledge of unit/function/system testing tools such as Junit, Cucumber, Appium
  • Experience in refactoring existing code base and in understanding existing implementations to decide to refactor or rewrite.
  • Exposure to debugging a high-volume large-scale transaction processing system
  • Knowledge of SCM & CI tools such as Git, Jenkins/Hudson
  • Experience with agile methodology is preferred
  • Experience working with databases such as MySQL/ Oracle etc.

Educational Qualifications

  • BSCS or equivalent + 3 years of experience / MSCS + 2 years of experience in software development
