We are seeking a high-energy and innovative professional with a passion for improving how people manage and move money. The Manager of Bank Partnerships position at PayPal is responsible for managing the most critical components of the partnerships with financial institutions. You will become the primary face of PayPal to bank partners and help lead a cross-functional team to support the core part of PayPal’s payment business, develop strategic partnership opportunities that build on PayPal’s strong foundations, deliver measurable value to the company, and help it better serve its customers. You will have the opportunity to represent and think strategically across PayPal business lines (Venmo, Braintree, Xoom etc.). The position is highly visible in the organization and involves frequent interaction with senior leaders at PayPal and external partners.


  • Lead the card acceptance and payment expansion components of the relationships
  • Collaborate with cross-functional (sales, product, analytics, compliance) and cross-regional teams, liaise and communicate with Senior Management
  • Support partnerships into the execution phase and growth over time Structure and lead complex strategic partnerships with financial institutions.
  • Inform product roadmap based on partnership priorities
  • Support the ongoing development of PayPal’s strategy with financial institutions
  • Identify new business opportunities for PayPal and partners
  • Competitive/Market intelligence:  Support the competitive/market intelligence team in developing insights about key industry trends with financial institutions and inform the organization of their strategic implications

Reporting relationship:

This role will report to the Senior Manager of Business Development in the Payments Product & Engineering organization


  • Proven ability to effectively assess, prioritize, and execute autonomously
  • Learn quickly, deal with ambiguity and navigate organizational complexity (internally as well that of large institutional partners)
  • Strong strategic and analytical thinker with ability to put complex ideas into clear frameworks
  • Deep understanding of new in payments and banking (mobile, security, internet, identity)
  • Comfort using data to evaluate hypotheses and to communicate ideas
  • Ability to identify, prioritize, and execute partnership opportunities
  • Track record of delivering tangible results with partners
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Superior communications (verbal, prose, PowerPoint) and influencing skills
  • People motivation and development skills


  • 5-10 years experience in related fields, with expertise in banking or payments
  • Knowledgeable about payment processing (card acquiring) a plus
  • Enterprise-level business development or relationship management experience
  • Evidence of progressive career development with increasing job scope and responsibility
  • MBA or other relevant graduate degree a plus
  • International experience a plus
