You and your team will play a pivotal role in designing and building the next generation of PayPal’s developer experience for our customers. You will be responsible for building and delivering PayPal SDKs and Integrations, maintaining and contributing to open source, evangelizing and driving engagement and outreach. You and your team will partner with the developer relations team by holding open office hours, speaking at conferences, hosting workshops and creating content like video tutorials and have active social media and blog presence. We’re looking for someone who is eager to learn and able to master many technologies and has a strong focus on understanding what our customers want.

What we look for in you:

  • Lead the PayPal SDK and Integrations team, working with Product and Design to define product roadmap and build a cohesive end to end PayPal developer experience. This includes managing collaboration across teams as needed and resolving competing priorities.
  • 4+ years managing software development teams
  • 6+ years of web or mobile engineering and product development experience with strong delivery track record of high-quality consumer products at scale.
  • Experience in managing and operationalizing complex production environments.
  • Experience in developer-facing products (e.g. SDKs, REST APIs, GraphQL) or products that enable third-party application development are great to have but not required.
  • Lead the organization to constantly deliver top quality products on time and on budget. Bring predictability to the team’s overall performance and delivery.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Hiring, developing & retaining top talent and be responsible for the overall team structure. Coach and mentor managers and individual contributors.
  • Guide decisions on overall technical plan, including architecture and technical strategy.
  • Own and enhance development processes to ensure the quality of products and code, enhancing the engineering discipline of the team.
  • Keep up to date on industry trends and technologies and apply them quickly to our products.

Here’s more information about how we work:

  • Communication is key to our process, and we don't want to hinder it with walls. We work directly with other teams.
  • Engineers build, test, release and monitor their own code.
  • We pair program often. We believe that we do our best work when we work and collaborate together.
  • We default to async communication and call for meetings when necessary.
  • We hold daily stand-ups and have regular retrospectives to discuss things that are going well and opportunities for improvements.
  • We value unique perspectives brought by diverse backgrounds and experiences. A broad range of ideas and perspectives help us to create the best possible product.

Types of projects we work on:

  • We do a lot of open-source development as our SDKs are in public GitHub. We also contribute to other open-source projects.
  • We own PayPal’s SDKs, which are the primary way for a merchant to accept payments in their Websites and Mobile apps.
  • We are launching new and interesting ways to pay through the SDKs.
  • We create easy-to-use developer tools that supplement our SDKs and Integrations.
  • We are focused on improving the developer experience by engaging with the external developer community, creating tutorials, blogs, and speaking at conferences.

Other cultural aspects:

  • Open dev days: every two weeks we spend a day working on projects that interest us and help us expand our skills and knowledge.
  • Participation in the technology community: we help cover travel and attendance costs for conferences, and we offer opportunities and tools for speaking.
