Honey is a fast-growing company based in Los Angeles, and we’ve recently joined the PayPal family to help supercharge our mission of creating fairness and value for everyone. We’ve built a community of over 20 million online shoppers and use the collective insights of our members to power an online shopping platform that allows everyone to shop smarter, together. And we are actively seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Product Catalog team in our Boulder, CO office. This team focuses on building a streaming data platform to support product information provided to user-facing products across Honey.

The Product Catalog's team mission is to build a comprehensive database of products on the internet in order to support Honey's Droplist, Offers, Deals, Shopping, and other products. The scope of our work includes ingesting data from multiple sources and presenting it through APIs, data warehouses, and data subscriptions. In order to do all of this at PayPal's scale we must leverage tools ranging from streaming and batch data jobs to quality monitoring through machine learning.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Product Catalog team, you'll own and contribute to a platform that sits at the very heart of everything done at Honey. You will be expected to write and review code, contribute to architectural discussions, mentor colleagues, and apply robust monitoring and operational best practices to our systems. You and your team’s contribution will impact how Honey provides a better way to buy online and make money more fair for everyone.

What You'll Do:

As a Senior Software Engineer on the product catalog team at Honey, you will:

  • Work within a mission team (a cross-functional team focused on a specific, well-defined mission)on a given set of features and services
  • Architect, design, write, review, and test code in a collaborative environment with 9 other software engineers.
  • Work with our SDET team to ensure repeatable integration testing
  • Deploy to a microservices environment in as automated a fashion as possible
  • Leverage your peers as multipliers for your skills to create excellent products and services for Honey’s 20+ million users
  • Build GraphQL-based APIs and resolvers using JavaScript
  • Build data pipelines in idiomatic Scala,reading from Pubsub and processing millions of messages per day
  • Build monitoring for all your services and tasks to ensure their reliability and health
  • Work closely with a product manager for your mission team on product requirements and translating those requirements to technical solutions

About You:

  • You write idiomatic code in a modern language like JavaScript/Node.js, Golang, or Scala (we'll train you up on Scala)
  • You use a modern version-control system for your source code repository (Git, Mercurial, GitHub, BitBucket)
  • You communicate well with a team of equals, in print as well as verbally
  • You know how to drive consensus to advocate for your ideas
  • You lint all your code or know you should
  • You know what parts of your code require tests and you write those tests
  • You know how to use a framework to create robust and reliable HTTP-based APIs
  • You know it’s important to monitor your production systems
  • You know it’s important to stage your systems before you deploy to production
  • You know about continuous integration systems like Travis, Jenkins, or CircleCI (we use Circle)
  • You’re able and willing to deploy your systems to production and troubleshoot them if they fail
  • You want to work with Docker and Kubernetes


Nice-to-Have Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in CS or equivalent
  • Passion for online shopping (or at least like a deal)
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform, CircleCI, Scala, Node.js, NPM, Git, GitHub, Golang, Kubernetes, Docker
