Sr Mgr of Underwriting Merchant Risk Oversight will report to the Director, Head of Merchant Risk Oversight & Analytics. Role and Responsibilities

•    Establishment of the Financial Underwriting Framework and Governance for Merchant Risk including:

  • Creation and maintenance of underwriting oversight policies and procedures
  • Establishment of Risk Appetite, KPI, Risk triggers, and concentration risks
  • Set exposure limits/thresholds to ensure alignment to the Risk Appetite
  • Design monitoring tool and dashboard to provide governance on high risk and exposure merchants

•    Develop financial analysis curriculum, best practice and train the Underwriters
•    Independently test, review and analyze assumptions used in underwriting.  Validate, calibrate and assess the accuracy of the PD
•    Recommend and challenge strategies proposed by the Merchant Risk management team

Experience
The role requires a seasoned risk professional with a deep commercial lending background in underwriting, credit and financial analysis at a large complex financial institution.

From a cultural perspective, this leader will need to fit into the PayPal leadership model that will require strong financial acumen, self-confidence and the ability to push back but in a respectful manner.

  • Candidate must have advanced degree in quantitative or Finance area
  • 10+ years of experience in credit and financial underwriting at a large complex financial institution
  • The role requires an analytical mindset to deep dive into portfolio analytics and drive insights on opportunities to optimize the underwriting framework
  • Candidates must have led a quantitative risk function for a bank or consumer financial services business where business processes and data integrity are critical.  Preferably with expertise in high transaction, data intensive, payment services environments.
  • A track record of building relationship with stakeholders and influencing decision makers
