Role Purpose

The Brand Strategy and Branding team has embarked on a journey to redefine PayPal’s role in the world and how it manifests itself to current and prospect customers. The Brand Strategy Senior Manager will be a key factor for the development and implementation of the positioning to support our Human Resources partners and Corporate Affairs partners at PayPal. The impact of this work will impact how we both attract and retain people who want to be part of PayPal and support our one team approach to collaboration, foster innovation by creating experiences for our stakeholders and prioritize wellness as well as elevate the work we do continually build our trusted reputation and deliver social innovation. The goal is to increase awareness, consideration and advocacy around the PayPal brand, elevate the marketing outcomes and drive business growth.

This is a highly cross-functional role that requires close partnership across many teams including Human Resources, Corporate Communications, Marketing and Research, Sales to define brand foundations, strategies and narratives, identify best practices, develop presentations and case studies to push the brand forward with key stakeholder. 

The candidate must be able to thrive in a fast-moving environment. They are a results-oriented, highly motivated, hands-on leader able to set a vision to drive change internally and be able to develop and implement complex projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development of Brand Strategy at a Corporate Level to support the evolution of our narratives around PayPal as an employer, Corporate Affairs and Social Innovation in partnership with our Human Resources and Communications Teams.
  • Drive joint planning and strategy approach with the Corporate Communications team and Human Resources on the brand narrative to elevate the impact and flywheel effect of our social innovation and employer brand efforts.
  • Partner with Social Innovation team to develop customer facing communications and amplifications of the role PayPal is playing as a force for good to more strongly connect our actions and customer engagement with our purpose and values through our brand mission
  • Provide brand management, creative services, and marketing support to our HR organization in packaging the PayPal value proposition as an employer brand.
  • Support the Talent Acquisition team to deliver an always on employer brand narrative and approach to recruitment.
  • Provide brand management support to our Employee Affinity and Resource groups 
  • Partner with the Market Research team to evolve our set of tools to measure stakeholder sentiment, Brand Health, Brand Sentiment, Brand Trust and Brand Advocacy.
  • Build and nurture strong and trusting relationships with stakeholders to establish the role as a critical component to drive positive impact for the organization.
  • Support and where necessary lead relationship with PayPal brand strategy agencies
  • Build and operationalize stakeholder learning plan to ensure ongoing target audience insight and understanding at a team, interdepartmental, and corporate level.
  • Develop deep level understanding of competitive activities and reflect in ongoing marketing approaches
  • Bring outside in thinking and inspiration to PayPal to drive new benchmarks in creative excellence. Bring new expertise to the team to inspire the deployment of breakthrough ideas and creative impact.

Requisite Experience

  • Senior Brand Strategist 5+ years’ experience
  • Brand transformation track record in the creation, transformation of a beloved global/regional brand
  • Creative Leader track record in business changing strategic projects
  • Agency Experience known for getting the best work out of the best agencies
  • Global Operator with track record in working empathetically across multiple geographies
  • Agent of Change has led and motivated teams through change and has actively played a role in lifting the bar
  • Commercially minded understands the importance of demonstrating impact and linking brand metrics to commercials. Can manage and administer budgets effectively and optimize vendor roster for efficiency
  • Outstanding communicator can motivate others through language and the written word and can simplify the complex
  • Brilliant collaborator track record in working interdependently with individuals and teams for mutual success and understands the importance of elevating others and the team’s success above personal success
  • Customer Champion with demonstrated track record in designing marketing solutions with customer at centre
  • Proven team transformation experience in hiring, retaining and coaching a team for peak performance
