PayPal is looking for a Sr. Manager to lead a team of highly skilled engineers in the Auto-routing team. This team is the escalation point of contact for core infrastructure services in PayPal sites globally. The team is responsible for providing critical support for the PayPal infrastructure like Load balancers, global traffic Managers, DNS, Mail, Proxy, NTP, etc. The support provided by this team will have a global reach and support thousands of applications at PayPal. As an Infrastructure Services Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team of 10-15 Engineers spread across multiple time zones. In addition, you will be responsible for providing highly available infrastructure and end-to-end problem management of the services that are owned by this team, including coordinating with other engineering and support organizations, and vendors to drive solutions. At PayPal, we expect our technical managers to be strong engineers who can dive deep and get involved in addition to being strong managers.


  • As a Sr. Manager you will be expected to drive operational excellence in everything we do. This includes creating processes and procedures to improve efficiency in our day-to-day tasks and projects. Automation and Infrastructure as code is a key part of managing our fleet at scale and you will be looking at all the services provided has self-service capabilities. You will work closely on supporting our internal customers and ensuring that their needs and issues are being addressed.
  • You will be partnering with multiple internal and external teams from an infrastructure point of view for migrating applications to public cloud (GCP/AWS/Azure), evaluating and partnering in decisions for using cloud native services (including cloud native load balancing) vs bring your own.
  • You will be integral to developing and improving incident and change management within the Infrastructure space. Responsibilities include driving initiatives regarding improvements to existing tools & processes and providing feedback on new practices & procedures in order to scale with the rapid expansion of the PayPal platform and customer base.
  • You will own all dimensions of performance and career management for the team. You will be expected to provide both technical and soft skills through staff meetings and 1:1 coaching in order to maintain and grow a well-rounded, world-class organization. This includes project management and delivering to meet & beat PayPal’s goals, coordination of Knowledge transfer sessions with senior-level engineers as well as day-to-day oversight of the team including scheduling.
  • You will take the lead in hiring quality personnel who not only fit the needs of the current organization but also will allow the team to scale with platform and service growth. You will coordinate with PayPal recruiting staff to evaluate potential candidates, participate in initial phone screens and provide relevant guidance and feedback during interviews. You will also be responsible for ensuring that proper training takes place for all new hires.


  • Minimum of 6 years of experience managing enterprise systems and 10+ years of relevant experience in infrastructure operations responsibility.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, or an equivalent combination of formal education, experience preferred.
  • Must have a strong technical background and understand system architecture, design, load balancers, DNS, NTP, email systems, network infrastructure, and operating systems.
  • Experience analyzing the various dimensions (Security, Availability, Cost, etc) of migrating workload from on-prem to public cloud in large scale preferred.
  • Experience in Agile and Scrum methodologies is an added advantage.
