Job Description

At PayPal (NASDAQ: PYPL), we believe that every person has the right to participate fully in the global economy. Our mission is to democratize financial services to ensure that everyone, regardless of background or economic standing, has access to affordable, convenient, and secure products and services to take control of their financial lives. We’re a purpose-driven company, and our beliefs are the foundation of how we conduct business every day. We’re guided by our core values of Inclusion, Innovation, Collaboration, and Wellness. Collectively, these values inspire us to work together as One Team with our customers at the center of everything we do, and to take care of ourselves, each other, and the communities in which we live and work. We challenge the status quo, ask questions, and find solutions. Join us as we enable the hopes, dreams, and ambitions of millions of people around the world.

Honey is a fast-growing company based in Los Angeles, and we’ve recently joined the PayPal family to help supercharge our mission of creating fairness and value for everyone. We’ve built a community of over 20 million online shoppers and use the collective insights of our members to power an online shopping platform that allows everyone to shop smarter, together. With that, we are excited to say we’re hiring! We are actively seeking a Fullstack Engineer to focus on the Tips team.

We’ve got a small but tight knit team filled with cross functional and amazing people.  As a member of Tips you will be at the bleeding edge of our customer facing interfaces and building backend services that will scale to our user base of over 20 million users!  You will leverage several technologies such as NodeJS, Python, Scala, Google’s suite of storage options (Spanner/Cloud Storage/Big Query), and Analytical clickstream data.  On the backends we run a microservices architecture using Docker and Kubernetes.  On the front ends we primarily live in our cornerstone product of the extension. Your contribution will impact how we ensure that Honey is the better way to buy, by providing high impact information when our users are making their purchasing decisions. Overall on the engineering team, we value a can-do attitude, collaboration, learning, and curiosity.

As a backend engineer you will be expected to develop solutions the will power our features. The back end is in its infancy for the Tips team so one of the main drivers for this role will be to help work with the team and infrastructure already in place to handle the load and throughput of our user base. You will be building microservices to build data sets for loading new and exciting tips to our front end. You will also be building backend workers to create new insights to power our growing library of tips.   You will be interacting with a cross functional team which includes Product Managers, Analysts, Designers, and obviously other engineers both on the team and organization wide.

What You'll Do:

As a Backend Engineer at Honey, you will:

  • Build new APIs and Endpoints
  • Build new Insights to power our tips

  • Building and maintaining databases

Nice-to-Have Qualifications:

  • GraphQL
  • Test automation and test-driven development experience
  • Microservices Architecture experience

At Honey, we are committed to building a diverse and inclusive company.
