Fueled by a fundamental belief that having access to financial services creates opportunity, PayPal (NASDAQ: PYPL) is committed to democratizing financial services and empowering people and businesses to join and thrive in the global economy. Our open digital payments platform gives PayPal’s 277 million active account holders the confidence to connect and transact in new and powerful ways, whether they are online, on a mobile device, in an app, or in person. Through a combination of technological innovation and strategic partnerships, PayPal creates better ways to manage and move money, and offers choice and flexibility when sending payments, paying or getting paid. Available in more than 200 markets around the world, the PayPal platform, including Braintree, Venmo and Xoom enables consumers and merchants to receive money in more than 100 currencies, withdraw funds in 56 currencies and hold balances in their PayPal accounts in 25 currencies.

PayPal’s Legal Team is looking to hire an Investigations Specialist to conduct and collaboratively resolve complex and sensitive workplace complaints including claims of harassment, discrimination, and retaliation. In this role, you will work closely with the People Team, Global Investigations, business leaders, and employees to build understanding, transparency, and trust across the company.

As an investigator, you will work as part of a small, dynamic, high-performing team responsible for conducting internal reviews involving alleged violations of PayPal’s polices against discrimination, harassment, workplace bullying, the company’s Code of Conduct and Ethics, as well as relevant state and federal employment laws.  Core responsibilities include:

  • Designing and executing upon investigation plans, including, but not limited to, the review and analysis of specific allegations, collection and assessment of documentary evidence, and conducting relevant witness interviews.
  • Effectively interacting and communicating with individuals involved in the matter being investigated, including People Business Partners, business leaders and affected employees.
  • Managing a caseload of multiple internal reviews.  Preparing and maintaining investigation plans, case files, executive summaries, and reports as part of an end-to-end investigative and reporting process.
  • Making objective and analytically-sound findings and providing recommendations and advice about options for corrective action as well as recommendations for internal improvements to mitigate the risk of future improper activity.
  • Coordinating with internal employment counsel, privacy counsel, outside counsel, and others, as appropriate.
  • Supporting and promoting continuous improvement to the investigation process.
  • Learning and benchmarking against external best practices and recommending appropriate changes to internal practices.
  • Developing a deep understanding of PayPal’s unique culture and values and bringing objective empathy to investigations.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience conducting complex investigations as in-house or outside counsel, senior HR professional, or relevant government department or agency role.
  • An enthusiasm for investigations and the important role they play in advancing PayPal’s mission.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact and communicate effectively with employee witnesses, members of leadership, and other key stakeholders throughout the course of investigations.
  • A strong personal ethical code and integrity, with a deep respect for privacy and confidentiality.
  • The experience and confidence to make difficult decisions and to exercise expert judgment.
  • The ability to recognize and put aside personal biases, to see different perspectives, and to conduct all investigative aspects independently and objectively.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, especially in complex and nuanced situations.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • An ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.  Self-motivated, detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Curiosity and a learning mindset with a willingness to engage in continual learning and to contribute to the learning of the team.
  • Resilience in managing a demanding caseload, balancing shifting priorities, and meeting deadlines.
  • Grace under fire when working in crisis situations.
  • Occasional travel.

We hold ourselves to our One Team Behaviors which demand that we hold the highest ethical standards, to empower an open and diverse workplace, and strive to treat everyone who is touched by our business with dignity and respect.
