The PayPal Checkout and Beyond Engineering Team builds the technology that powers PayPal’s core payment products. Our software enables the highest payment volume and fastest growing revenue area for the company. We’re looking to hire a hands-on and results-oriented Engineering Leader for the PayPal Checkout and Beyond Engineering team. Strong technical background & demonstrated experience in leading Platform Engineering work and great people skills to build highly competent and productive teams are key qualifications and traits to be successful in this role. We adopt a rapid iteration, lean startup, and rapid experimentation approach. It’s a fast-paced, innovative environment, and we love our work and take pride in it. Communication is key to our process, and we don't want to hinder it with walls. Collaboration is key – since we work with multiple stakeholders and teams. We have no QA department – developers test, release and monitor their own code. About you

You are highly motivated, goal driven Engineering manager who can lead and manage agile scrum teams to build products and craft solutions capable of delivering a billion transactions a day. We’d like to know that you thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy driving innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development.

What we are looking for:

  • 5+ years of software development and engineering experience of which 1+ years hands-on experience managing and growing engineering teams.
  • Experience in the Financial services/Banking domain is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or Master's degree in Computer Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Work experience in JavaScript/Node/React, Java, Databases
  • Solid understanding of Web Services, Restful APIs, Distributed and Scalable Architecture
  • Ability to lead, organize, and manage projects from beginning to end that require coordinated efforts across multiple functions 
  • Ability to operate and thrive in a fluid, ever changing environment.  Proactive in approach with a focus on driving results and outcomes with multiple priorities and multiple stakeholders.
  • Drive Innovation and Customer advocacy.  Be a positive change agent with a “can-do” attitude.
  • Prior success in hiring, mentoring, and developing highly effective Software Engineers and building high performing teams
  • Providing technical leadership and architectural guidance
  • Expertise in software development best practices
  • Experience with DevOps tools and practices including CI/CD, and Observability (e.g.: Splunk, SignalFx or similar)

  • Lead engineering efforts in driving the product roadmap and business requirements.
  • Mentor and grow the team.
  • Collaborating with peers both within their team and across the organization.
  • Working with Product Managers using Agile Methodologies to deliver high quality solutions on time.
  • Working with operations teams to ensure your applications and services are highly available and reliable.
  • Supporting your applications and/or services as and when required.
  • Partner with Product Managers, Program Managers, Design, Analytics, and dependencies to craft great Product experiences
  • Foster a collaborative culture within the team
